Any word on SLB's status for new hires? Have a cousin set to go somewhere in Louisiana, would be a real shame if they took back his offer.

@8myr+14owR8eM I got hired on in 2018 as a fresh grad for the SAP shift, and I plan on doing the same, as well as everyone that was hired with me in my department. Most of us never wanted to be in oil in the first place, but now that a lot of us in my hiring group finally fit the "fresh grad, 2 years experience" bill that every company asks for these days, we are going to jump ship.
I was hired as a recent grad when oil was at at $30bbl in 2015. They honored my offer so they could let a more experienced (read: expensive) employee go. My start date and salary stayed the same, but I was moved to the Sugar Land North campus. It really depends on the schemes of hiring managers if there is a landing spot or not. Field personnel will have it tougher - they always do.
My $.02. Your cousin should really get out of oil while he can. If he/she manages to stick somewhere, there wont be much to do for a year besides b.s. training courses handed down by EHS and corporate folks with too much time on their hands. And then they'll run into the managers who will have a favorite that they're trying not to let go at all costs - even not telling your cousin things he/she should know to do the job. In a couple years, they will be competing against another round of new hires without having any meaningful experience, all while being paid a little more due to annual salary raises. That means your cousin will be easier to let go.
The offer will be revoked.
Yeah, SLB isn't hiring. I know people that are getting laid off right now in all sectors. Worked for there for 18 years. Big Corp. only cares about the bottom line. If you think they care about you, sorry you are expendable. SLB will never admit they are wrong on hiring, lay off, firing, dismissal or simply just wrong doing with employment. Saw it time and time again.
Offer letter will be rescinded.
Every offer letter includes wording about how SLB is an at-will employer. There's also wording included about how the offer is not a contract. Your cousin should expect his start date to be delayed indefinitely. I'd recommend he look elsewhere.
Hahahahaha
Not any time soon price of oil is way to low
