Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Layoff delay

I think it's not really a secret that Seagate had a layoff schedule in the works, and I think it's also fair to say that it was scheduled for sometime in the past. My question is, what benefit does a corporation have to delay? Does Seagate expect some sort of government bailout that is a function of employment numbers? Is there some sort of disadvantage to laying off people now?

@OP+14oP5ASr Is there some sort of disadvantage to laying off people now?

In some countries Seagate does business in it was prohibited by law to lay people off during the quarantine. One can imagine how this would force a change in plans even in the countries with no restrictions.

The delay is due to adding employees to the original list now that more cuts will need to be made. Expect the larger layoff this quarter.

Seagate should lay off only Employees with H1B visa, not citizens. If any citizens get lay off notice send it to Trump. He will take action.

Maybe it is out of heartfelt concern for employees during a severe, worldwide, medical and economic crisis? Oh wait, I forget this is Seagate we are talking about, forget all that.

Getting back computer hardware and other intellectual property primarily. Employees could download anything saved locally on their laptop hard-drives when not connected to the network.
