How come Ford laid off contractors last week but the internet is silent about it?

In my department there had been no reductions because contractors can fall under "purchased services" which means they are still eligible for full pull and full hours..

In case you want to know what's going on in other parts of the world (in this case UK and Germany):
https://www.tekportal.net/ford-furloughs-more-uk-workers/

Furlough for employees, with the cost burden shifted to governments.
And the article doesn't mention about contractors (there are not so many in Germany, but quite a few in the UK) so I'm not sure what happens to them since it's so easy to cut their hours (and cost) instantly.

In our area, agency/ contract were NOT laid off. Only hours were reduced.. Ford is trying not to layoff people and also cut costs to improve cash flow. If this lockdown lasts too long, Mgmt may have to take additional actions... But so far, no layoffs.

No one cares until Tuesday
Many people feeling secure and entitled while continuing to loaf.
That will change
Enjoy the Easter vacation.

H1Bs ain’t cheap, the requirement for H1b approval is to have LCA for min prevailing wage, look at the bulletin boards in your building where they post the H1B petition LCA copies for so many days before hiring a H1b, I remember seeing $130k for H1b calibrator. That’s not cheap !

Bean counters and the suits don’t think like workers do.
Put yourself in their shoes and think about it. Do the math. Then you will know what game is afoot.

Yeah when we get back next we are all going to take a haircut both green and blue badges through furlough. This companies bleeding cash. 09' at least they were still building and selling something. This is going to get much worse than better in the next 6 weeks.

Perhaps people are more concerned about health/deaths now, right? Virus, right?

Layoffs are happening every day - losing a few contract workers is not newsworthy as this happens all year long.

The worst has yet to come....

I love it when a mega-company does something somewhere and people stand up and say "no they didn't" when its likely that they only know about their own plant. How many facilities does Ford have across the nation? (and I'm not talking about full on production factories. I many anything.)

Please stop spreading rumors that are not true. No one was laid off - just reduced # of hours.
