When the COVID-19 state of emergency began, and the field were asked for throw their non-essential personnel to the mercy of deliberately badly designed unemployment systems, there was a piece of the message Follett insisted on that they 'hoped you would return.'
I'm afraid Follett is suffering from short term amnesia. Today field managers were asked to go through their rosters and say who is 'necessary' and who isn't. most I believe wanted everyone back, most stores were already cut to the bone, and most have continued to work with the hope that they'd have everything back in place when it mattered.
That is no longer the plan, apparently. I wont speculate when they carry out the purge, but I expect language to be centered around challenging unprecedented circumstances regarding why so many will, in fact, not be rejoining the workforce. But this is absolutely the kind of mealy mouthed 'right-sizing' Follett is known for. If you're Furloughed now, be safe, but be safe in looking for other alternatives. At least for FHEG, when they bring things back on line, not everyone will be welcomed back after all. Normally when I post with my Nom De Guerre it is with hard evidence. I apologize that I can offer none, save the phone call. But given all we've seen, can you not blame me for stating this now before another hurried conference call after hours when depressed RMs will have to deliver the news?
