Use this chance to focus on what really matters: Your family, your health, your faith if you observe that and your general peace.
Colleges and Universties are virus swimming pools for getting sick. How often did you get sick after rush with all those nasty flu bugs and viruses students from all over the world bring right to your store each term? No other college department has as much contact with students to start the term! Seriously, the best thing is to not be there playing roulette with your health over Follett making .25 cents on a stupid scantron. If your college was stupid enough to let your store open Follett wouldn't think twice and would have you right there to collect their money even it resulted in your death because $$$ is all that matters to Follett. You are a number, nothing more to them. Did they take care of you in any way through this like other companies did with their people? Nope! Even c-appy Macy's paid health benefits lol.
I challenge you with this question: When was the last time that c-apper of a company made you happy? Ignore the paycheck for a moment and seriously ask yourself that question: When was the last time that Follett MADE YOU HAPPY to get off the bed and work for them? Take the next month and evaluate that question and how your mindset changes after being forced to break free of that prison and the constant line of bs the top level constantly pushes out. On April 30th if you are supposed to go back to work...will you or would you have finally figured out that Follett is slowly k–ling you and you need to break away?
Dip into your savings, retirement if that is an option, credit card if you need to so you can gap your way to the stimulus check and unemployment. Cancel the junk excess bills and free up money. Use the money you have for food and the critical bills/meds. You aren't getting evicted tomorrow in this environment and many lenders are giving a 4 month freeze regardless. Sometime this month a 4-month unemployment option that probably pays most folks more than Follett ever compensated you will begin flowing in. I'd be shocked if that doesn't turn into another 3 months of unemployment after that. Use this time wisely for your next steps.
I work in the independent world with a few other former Follett/Barnes folks and we feel this is the final nail in he coffin of Follett and B&N Campus Stores and that the Colleges and Universities will begin to wise up and take back their stores so students can be the focus again when Summer and Fall have next to no course materials available. Wouldn't surprise me to see these contractors take the money and run and just walk away from this dying business after this regardless. Be prepared...
Best wishes and health to all.
