Thread regarding Enterprise Rent-A-Car layoffs

This is not the end

Mark my words, we'll be hearing about more hour cuts and furloughs and layoffs and everything in between throughout the entire April. Don't be naive and think this was the extent of cuts Enterprise Rent-A-Car has in store for us for the duration of COVID-19 crisis.

Was a 6yr employee worked all 3 brands in homecity & at a top airport. K–led my pay plan as an assistant and mad it to brm and was performing decently (not outstanding but decent). They closed most branches in my group and had most abrm & brm run 1 or 2 locations per area. My last week was spent getting my branch ready to open. I was laid off on the 28th of April, officially the 30th. Many furloughed employees came back on the 26th, not all but most that had assumed that they were getting cut after being out so long. These were MTs & MAs that came vack the day before the big cut. My branch reopened the Monday after I was let go...WTF. The cut was based on money most of us had elevated pay plans. They did pay severance, but if I want to come back it'll be as a MT......loved the team and power, but hated the stress no way would I do that again for MT pay. SN: I was supposed to pickup several cars from a corporate cust the next day....They literally only text me and all of the players picked up from different places the phone number on file go back to a no empty facility that I'm the only one with the gate access code. Nit my problem I guess.

I worked for Enterprise from 2001 till 2008. I made MA in 6 months, assistant manager at 7 months, branch manager by 1 year and 2 months. I worked my butt off and moved up quickly to manage the 3rd biggest branch in my region. Worked there 3 years and was always in the top 3 of my region and only twice dropped below an 88 on ESQI surveys for over 24 months. I managed 425 cars and 24 employees. I worked in excess of 50 hours weekly not including a commute. In 2008 the economy went to c-ap and I was let go without a reason (at will state). I was making approx $90,000 yearly. They hired a guy I trained for an estimated $48,000 potential income. Bottom line is when the c-ap hits the fan, it does not matter how good, loyal, or hard you worked for them. You are just an number to them and if you think otherwise, you are kidding yourself. It was a hard lesson to learn. Funny part is, for years Enterprise bragged about never laying off employees since it's founding. Look at them now. My experience with them taught me never trust a large corporation. They build you up just to dump you when times get tough.

I worked in Ohio at Enterprise. I was an MT absolutely loved my job and done the work of an assistant and then some because I loved it. All branches in our area except two got shut down mine stayed open but they brought branch managers in whose stores had been closed and sent all hourly employees home. Paid us for two weeks then put us on furlough made us use all paid time off we had left the. File for unemployment. I messaged my area manager saying hey is the plan to still go back to work on the 1st. She says oh I’m gonna call you all Friday with an update. Yep you guessed it we was all “laid off” aka fired! They said opening back up is going to be a slow process over 12 months or longer. I said okay do I have the option to come back at my position if I am not working when you do open back up. They said I could reapply sorry but I’m not going to reapply and start all over again. Breaks my heart because I absolutely loved my job!

I was also on the Zoom call on 4/22/2/20 when management and HR thought that they ended the meeting. They all tainted and laughed at all the furloughed employees who had questions after the moderator (Melissa Adams) read from a prepared script about permanently being laid off as of 4/30/2020. They were to DUMB too realize that they failed to end the meeting before having such a disgusting conversation, which was heard by ALL. The Reservations department booked reservations for customers and were encouraged to book the largest car size for all the customers. It ultimately was about the most revenue for all. The company benefited, the manager benefited and the employee benefited by their monthly commission check. FYI...it you rent car and have full coverage insurance, decline all insurance offers! If you want to rent a SUV, make sure they don’t book you for the largest SUV in the fleet. (i.e. large (Expedition) premium SUV (Suburban) It’s just another way to increase revenue and commission checks.

In Honolulu HI Airport l. I was furloughed then laid off last Monday. The reason being that I have insurance with the company. Which I do not, my husband is in the military and we have tricare. I’ve explained that since I first started. I’ve spoken to other coworkers in my situation and turns out the full timers were laid off when the part timers weren’t. They way they handled this is just inappropriate and wrong.

In 2008, Erac dealt with the economic bust by laying off 1/3rd of middle management (mostly Area managers) and non-essential admin folks. No car prep, MTs, Assit or Branch managers. Laying off MTs now only just have to go back a hire new ones when this is over is crazy. I wonder if they will re hire those who have been laid off?

Down here in the central Georgia Eastern Alabama region, massive layoffs rolled out on Monday. We were initially furloughed, then they eventually said to hell with us and laid A WHOPPING amount of managers off. From assistant managers, to branch managers, even some Area Managers. This has to be nerve wrecking for employees who are still working. Nobody is safe

Just got laid off yesterday. I thought a layoff was temporary where you could come back, I guess I was wrong, it's termination. The Enterprise I worked at is one of the largest in U.S. Car rentals down 80-90% and they are getting wacked with no money coming in vehicles depreciating also. They made tons of money for years and if things don't change they'll lose more in a year than they made in all 10 yrs. They won't do the conventional lay off because they don't want to pay $400 a month for your medical insurance. Generally they are a very cheap company to work for and they'll work you into the ground if you let them.

The thing is that these companies are moving too fast on layoff's. Yes, I understand that we need business but they did ask for the bailout money and got it also. Just like every other business. They feel it best that they lay us off but since we have been furlough they still have to pay us for unemployment. What I don't understand you doing this layoff. But once this stuff clears for everyone to be out. You about to do a mass hiring. But your bailout money was base on the employee's you currently have. Now you trying to figure out how you can keep more money in your pocket and still have majority people without a job at this time. And when you do a hire again. would you hire those people back or just say go through the same process again. these company I just don't understand why not keep being furlough and then after 3 months then make the decision this is just really full month 1. I think they just about to let all the lower people go and anyone that corporate will have a job still

I work in the Midwest with remarketing and fleet logistics. The holding lot in our hub is packed with cars, and with all the drivers on furlough, none of those cars are getting moved to auctions or dealerships. I've been with the company for six years. It is my understanding that Enterprise makes a huge chunk of its revenue from car sales.

If the wholesale inventory isn't making it to buyers, I can only imagine how much money the company is losing...without even factoring in the precipitous downturn in rentals.

I'm a "part time" service agent. I say it that way because I work full time hours and have insurance through them but I dont get a few benefits FT has. Hours were cut to 0 for 2 weeks, just received word yesterday that we have been furloughed until April 30th, but I still have my job. It's pretty hard to be terminated in my area anyway and the few reliable people we do have, they dont want to lose. This is in NC btw.

I am in West Virginia and have been “asked” to take a LOA. Being forced to use my vacation and choice time days before being able to apply for unemployment. I think it’s b—s— that I have to use my vacation days and also worries me that maybe they’re doing this because maybe they know my job and future with enterprise is in jeopardy. I keep telling myself that Enterprise is a multi-billion dollar industry and there’s no way I’d lose my job as a vehicle delivery tech, but I think anything is up in the air at this time. Everyone stay safe, healthy, sane and I wish you good fortune in the wars to come

All MT’s in Iowa have been laid off. All drivers have been laid off. All service agents. At least 4 DR Managers in my area. Most non dept head admins. At least 50% of our current work force in GP 62 is furloughed including myself, not going to name the dept but not rental. Been with the company for a while and am pretty disappointed in the way this is being handled.

Global Shared Services has furloughed employees.
I just have to wonder how much of a cut in pay Chrissie Taylor is taking to try to help.

I read that other states have put MT’s on the 2 week Furlough. Cali and Colorado are two of them I think.

I was CSR in Canada, as far as I know for us it was cutting all “part time” workers. However, they exclaimed it was only temporary and once COVID-19 dies down, they’ll bring on old staff, I doubt they’d lay MTs unless it was last resort but at that point management itself would be in the process of being laid off
