Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Anybody surprised no job cuts yet?

I would think this would be a perfect opportunity for Ford to get rid of some people they were planning to get rid of anyhow while escaping the usual bad press - since everybody is doing it and it's not even the top news currently.

I still think it'll happen at some point. People will be furloughed and never called back.

Good comment. Very likely Ford will need bailouts. Public relations is job 1. Don't want to look like losers. Ford needs bipartisan support. They have it now but there will be a lot of companies looking for help.

I'm not surprised. It would be bad PR to announce cuts right now. Smaller companies can get away with it, but Ford is front and center in the spotlight. I'm guessing they are 1. Still determining if they will require any of the bailout funds and what the stipulations will be. My guess is that we will see some agency walked out as soon as the bailout is signed and the news cycle changes to recovery, not crisis 2. They don't want to overshadow the good press they are getting by producing masks and ventilator parts. 3. They don't want to be the first to drop the hammer. Once some other big names get the ball rolling, Ford will follow suit and hope their layoffs get lost in the headlines. For the immediate term, they'll clip around the edges, but there will be plenty of pain in the near future.
