Are we going to be able to keep our insurance? If laid off, can we do COBRA?

By law COBRA is extended for 18 months. It back dates to the day you lost coverage. I know because I was laid off twice from this company. In California at least you can buy insurance on the exchange also. Kaiser COBRA was about $400 a month cheaper for our family than the exchange costs including dental but not vision.

no insurance. you can go on cobra, however I'd save the money unless you get sick. cobra back dates to the beginning of the furlough if you sign up. Purely as an example because I don't know the terms of it here, if cobra is valid for 90 days after furlough, and you get sick on day 45, you can sign up for it on day 45 and it is valid from day 1. but why pay if you don't get sick or need it in that 90 days.
