Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Required Vacation Time

At least one person on this site said we would have mandatory vacation from Apr 6 to Apr 9.

He/she was right!

How did he/she know?

There have been some communications to agency suppliers. Expect reduction in hour rates to be passed on to contractor. Expect reduction in agency positions.

Could be permanent vacations, now is the perfect time to put people on the street. They will use this downturn as an excuse.

Agency employees only get paid if they work. If the whole company is on vacation, they don't work, either.

Our LL3 announced it at his staff meeting yesterday morning. That's how I knew.

@icp+14a8JFeC I think you answered your own question

Making people take paid vacations doesn’t save the company any money....immediately. All it does is mean it has to pay one week less when the person leaves the company. So why are they doing this?

I've worked in other companies that had used the same strategies and at the end some of Ford employees might not come back from the "vacations" at all

@lxj+14a8JFeC Agency/Contractors/Purchased service employees do get paid for that week. It saves ford some money. Also not using any servers reduces the overheads for a week.

How does this help the situation - still getting paid, right?

There are executives that post on here. Most likely the ones not aligned to the current regime. The slow speed Ford moves at; they plan this stuff many days in advance and cascade it to management before any big announcement is made.
