If ConocoPhillips is going to claim it started in 1875 (Continental Oil Company) then it can not claim Frank Phillips as it’s founder. Frank Phillips was two years old in 1875. Phillips founded Phillips Oil Company. Continental Oil Company merged with Marland Oil founded by E.W. Marland and became CONOCO. Then there was the merger of two equals when Conoco merged with Phillips to become ConocoPhillips.

Ancient history. Who posted this? Some ARCO holdover? Or maybe some Burlington wannabe trying to stir things up?
Is the stuff that keeps you up at night?
It’s funny because until recently ConocoPhillips was advertising that it was founded in 1926 with Frank Phillips as the founder and now it wants to advertise that it was founded in 1875 so the founder is invalid with that claim.
History is important because we keep repeating the same mistakes. The past will be the future: hypocritical arrogant leaders, incompetent managers who arrived at their positions by brown-nosing, incompetent exploration, stone-age Finance. But good presentations that Wall Street continues to buy in to and continues a legacy of disappointing results.
Hard hitting stuff here. What’s next? Al Cop one’s vault re-examined?
Get your facts straight. ConocoPhillips didn’t exist 20 years ago. These posts aren’t germane to Layoffs. Go read a history book.
And Why is this issue is relevant?
Here’s the truth: at the time of the DuPont spinoff, the two CEO’s almost agreed upon a merger. But these narcissistic jerks could not agree on which name came first, so it did not happen. Two years later JJ “gave in”. Folks thought Conoco “won” because AWD became chairman. Wrong!! Phillips proceeded to throw out everything Conoco (Carbon Fibers... GTL.. all managers) and the final house cleaning was Rob’s attempted go-around with the board because of JJ’s micro-managing control freak temper tantrums. Now, almost 20 years later, the true inmates have taken over the asylum.
You're going to make some spouse miserable with that kind of pedantry someday, if you can find one.
Actually Phillips acquired Conoco, just reversed it in the new name of the company, since more people recognized the Conoco brand. At present, COP is just a c-ap company though, just like Oxy, Chesapeake, etc. It wont be around much longer with its management and BS spirit values and poor
technical strength.
