DaimlerChrysler was a disaster, Nissan Renault is falling apart and the forthcoming FCA-PSA merger will be the next cluster. These deals always sound great in principle until the work of merging industrial giants starts. Its always a mess.
Just because we are doing some joint venture things with VW, dont jump to too many conclusions about mergers. Whats the argument for a merger? Economies of scale? nah, I dont buy it. Our truck and their car expertise/dealer network? Nope. Besides, the family would p–p a pumpkin before they see a Ford/VW emblem on the top of the glass house. I'm sure that some head-in-the-clouds MBAs love this idea, but I' not buying it. Although, it might be fun to see the Jims do a wall street presentation in leder hosen.

Not going to happen as long as the family has special voting privilege. They will never surrender control of the company unless they are forced to. The company was in far worse shape in 2007 when they declined a generous offer on the table.
