I was let go from my job through a muted 4 minute mass zoom call. I’ve worked for this company for over 6 years. I get free membership for life, BFD! There was no humanity, no personal connection. The Territory Manager read a statement and hung up the phone. This company that says they’re like family is a poor idea of what family is

It’s terrible for all of us no matter how long we’ve worked. What about those of us who have worked for WW Weight Watchers Reimagined for 25, 30, 35 40 and 45 years. To be let go with a 4 minute call with no warning and told as of that day. Those of us that were benefited should be getting some sort of package (for instance insurance)
This is for the ceo Mindy Grossman and I hope she sees it and reads it.. How would you like to get a phone call and email stating that you have been terminated from your high paying job. It wouldnt be very funny because you wouldnt be making the money that you now make and neithr would Oprah. Both of you should be fired. This was no way to treat employees of WW who spent their time with members and being at the meetings. Why did some of the employees get to stay with maybe only 2 yrs of working was as the others that had been employed a lot longer get to stay. It doesnt make sence. I was nocked out of working a night meeting just because this other little up start wanted to work so now she can work all she wants because I wont be back.
I was let go after25 years, other co-workers with 5 years still working. (Maybe i'm the lucky one). The audio call did sound like it was recorded. Very heartless and cowardly, shame on WW. What goes around comes around.
I hope Oprah reads all this then she will find out what she is thought of. In my book she is nothing I have never liked her and then joined WW and the that was worse than ever. She thinks she is a big shot just because she takes people on a big cruise I wouldnt have went on one if paid me to. And WW can go all they want I am finished with them.
I have also worked for 16 yrs and it should not have been because of your age or how many yrs. you have worked. If we had done something wrong that would be different but just to let somebody go because you are over a certain age bull s—. I wont be attending any of the meeetings any more I have been hurt like everyone else and stabbed in the back more than once and kept on working but I should have quit then and now I wish I would have. They dont care about you anymore it is just about getting peoples money so they can pay Oprah big money while we worked for chicken feed. I hope the T.V. networks get hold of this and interview a lot of people that got the phone call and the email about the terminations.
Thank you for all sharing. It’s nice knowing you are not alone. It is all ironic - and they call themselves a “wellness company” ? And Mindy Grossman’s tacky letter, from a word document it looked like her grandkid typed. So unprofessional.
They could at least let us keep our product discount too.
Hi, I'm a writer working on an article about Weight Watchers's "difficult decision" and I am looking to hear from people whom this has affected. I put up another post, available here: @OP+14Y5fn5G. If you’d be willing to share a more in-depth about your experience with Weight Watchers over the years, how this affects your relationship with the company, or how this affects your own wellness journey, let me know at segreports@gmail.com.
If anyone else is seeing this comment, and doesn't want to share in a public forum, feel free to email me as well. I know Weight Watchers has implemented a gag order, but I promise to be confidential with names and other private information.
Maybe David Mure of ABC nightly news can do a segment on how big Corporations are laying off humans in Covid-19.. This was a first for me too, a human less 4 min zoom call. Peace to all that got let go from WW, greater things will come for us! I did it for the members, they nickled and dimed front line employees for their pay. Avoid benefits by paying part-time only... Welcome to Oprah'a free seminar to deflect layoffs.
How long have each of the 'spared' employees worked for the company?
After almost 21 years of working for Weight Watchers, I was one of the ones that got the "you're no longer employed by WW" call yesterday. A 4 minute phone call read from a script, no feeling, no way to ask questions. We were told we are not to talk to other WW employees or our members. Our members are not stupid, they are going to know something is up when their coach and guides are not in the Virtual Workshop, and I am not going to lie to them when they contact me (and they will) wanting to know what's going on. Because of this, WW will no longer have a presence at all in the town where I live. While I realize that WW has taken a hit from Covid19, I think something else could have been done. This is not the way you treat dedicated, loyal employees.
It felt heartless how it happened. Both the call to those that 'survived' with the threat of immediate termination if we reached out to those known to be on a later call and the shorter less empathetic one to those that were being terminated. While not across the board, it appears those that are trained in multiple spots (guide/coach) survived more than those only trained as guide, but I see exceptions in that list so unsure how the decisions were made. No guidance/scripting on what to say or how to respond to members when they see some staff is missing in virtual studios and ask about them. I'm shocked at how heartless this played out. It could have been done with empathy and grace - it was not.
Definatly not by age.... I’m 31. And I am fired!
I for some reason was spared of my job. However the people who made me want to become an employee of ww were let go. I feel severe guilt and unfortunately have no control over this. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who was let go I can make sense of. These people were like family to me, and the way that ww fired them all was absolutely cruel and careless. Some of the people let go put in 25+ years of dedicated service. The members are who will suffer here. I am so saddened by this mass firing. Noone deserved this.
I've been an employee for over 25 years and was supposed to be on that call. I just couldn't get in. Doesn't mean Im not laid off, I figured it out when I couldn't get into my work sites, and, oh yeah, when my termination letter arrived. I do believe that some news agency should be notified about the cruel way this was handled. A four minute group call, with no video and muted, to let people go?? I've also been hearing that my fellow laid off coworkers were told to keep it a secret??? Not even tell their coworker friends?? What are they threatening us with, no 2 weeks severance pay if we dont stay quiet?? (It is most likely my states labor laws that they have to do that anyway). Oh yeah, maybe they will take away my free WW membership they gave me for the rest of my life, (or the rest of WWs life, which I suspect is short), because I told my friends and coworkers. Since I wasn't able to get into the call, I didn't hear that direction, too late now, its on Facebook. I think I will make it public.
The whole situation just feels so wrong. At a time when human connection has become so valued because of the health crisis WW came through for the members with the virtual meetings. But it seems the people (us) that brought those virtual meetings to life for the members don't matter at all. I will really miss my people. That's what this job was all about it certainly wasn't the compensation. I've had members that I've shared our lives over the past 7 years. It feels bad. We are what made WW what it is because we are the people on the front lines with the members. So remember that we are the most important part of the organization. Without us it won't be the same.
I was with Weight Watchers for over 15 years and hung in there with all the changes. Some good, some not so good. I did this for the members first and then for the company. I believe that age is a contributing factor in who stayed and who was let go. The way this was handled was definitely infantile and not in the manner of company that claims to support its employees (family) as well as it's members. I guess our many years of experience with the WW focus doesn't count anymore. Too bad for WW. They let go many, many valuable employees yesterday and in a very unprofessional manner.
I’m so sorry. I was spared for some reason but all my co workers were let go. I think I will give my notice as I no longer wish to work for a company that has no humanity or appreciation for their employees.
Same here!
