COBRA cost

Anyone know where to find how much cobra will cost? I can’t find where the employer contribution amount is for any of the plans.

Isn’t Obama care awesome. It’s nice being able to get insurance as a payed off contractor, now I just have to choose between rent and insurance. Maybe I can line my shopping cart with the policy letters and it will keep the rain from soaking my can of cat food

Check out this website HealthSharingPlans.com. They are basically a group of people who pay a small amount and then are reimbursed by the group for major medical costs. Most do not cover doctor visits, well care, etc. but are just designed for major medical. A co-worker has been in the group for a very long time and really likes it. Also, if you end up as no income or low income check out the state run healthcare, for example in Kansas it call KanCare, I believe most states have state funded healthcare. Best of luck.

Market Place insurance s—s. I have looked into it and even when you have insurance you carry the cost of up to 6,000.00 a person deductible, and very high RX rates. You would be better off using Good RX and get a plan that covers major medical. You need to find a health insurance broker and get a cost estimate, and some have rules about qualifying. I had a couple of friends retire under the Anadarko plan where you have to get your own insurance and then Anadarko (Oxy) reimburses you up to a certain dollar amount a month. My one friend has a family of 5 including , and the cost is around 1500.00 a month for insurance where you only get three free visits a year to the doctor and then you have to pay the rest up to deductible. I do think she gets almost all of it back from Anadarko (Oxy), but it is nothing like the insurance we have and you are waiting on payment each month. One time they were 3 months behind on payments because the insurance admin made a mistake. The insurance is one of the biggest decisions made before retiring our taking a VSP. The last thing you want is to not go to the doctor or take your loved one to the doctor because you are scared of the bill. I have also found out that doctors charge less to see people without insurance, so you could just pay cash for normal visits and sickness, use Good RX, and then carry a very high deductible catastrophic policy. Either way you won't have what you have now at the price.

@ryw+14Xhye2T Because you have lost employer-based coverage, you should be eligible for special enrollment for a marketplace insurance plans through healthcare.gov. For the price, their coverage is not as good as what we have from Oxy, but if your family is reasonably healthy, they will have plans less than $1800/month. You can check the available plans and pricing here by filling in some basic details about your family: https://www.healthcare.gov/see-plans/

Any recommendation other than Cobra for the insurance? $1800 per month for family of five is very expensive. Few options please.

This is only from my experience. I have had to help pay Cobra for my son and his bill is 589.00 a month for single. I know people that have left Anadarko that said it was about 1800.00 a month for a family of of five. That is based on those companies insurance plans. Just check with HR for sure, but I have seen something on the Oxy site before. It is expensive no matter what insurance and company.

The employer contribution is 0% because you are no longer employed. You pay the entire cost plus a 2% administrative fee.
