Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Undertime Mechanical’s way of saying we Value you

Got a great speech from my recently promoted manager about how valuable I am to the team. Then he presents all of us with an opportunity to leave early, volunteer to leave at lineup or at any point of my day. He called it Undertime. I was impressed with his communication skills between “ums” and “yeahs” I found out if I lay-off at least once a week I or we might keep our jobs. He sealed the deal with this “Some money is better than no money”!

I told him I would take every other Friday off until this COVID is over. He told he couldn’t do that but he would let me know when I could be “undertimed”.

Union Pacific Mechanical in a nutshell. “I’ll let ya know”!

yeah go ahead and believe that taking time off with no pay is going to save you! theyre going to use it against you. might as well work it and save that money for when you do get cut. cause its gonna happen anyways.

Whomever told you they were starting to negotiate contracts lied to you. They aren’t even going to the table to negotiate the contracts the unions are waiting till the election is over before they will even entertain the idea of talking. Our insurance is good not the best anymore and if people keep taking the undertime (which the company will attempt to get put in the contracts now) yea you can kiss what insurance you think is great goodbye. People need to wake up this company is going to continue to layoff because that is the only way they can pay dividends to shareholders. customers are not beating the door down for good ole unkle pete to tell them how to run their business anymore they are going elsewhere and they likely won’t return especially with the current crop of geniuses running the show.

The insurance is not as good as made to be. There is no way that plan is $1600 a month. According to agreements, employee portion is 15%. They are self insured with the insurance companies just managing the plan for a cost. Never in any insurance financial disclosure are they putting any lump sum into the account. At the end of the year the balance is always $0.

Think about this and then make your own decision what to do. When you hired on it was for 40hrs. a week. At that time you are considered a full time employee with all benefits awarded to that job.Your health insurance as an agreement employee is not only some of the best you can get for the price but also is one of the company's most costliest benefits it offers. With work contracts in the negotiating stages look at the money savings for the company if they deem with the undertime that all agreement employees are part time i.e. less than 40hrs. a week. Losing the insurance would be disastrous! Now draw your own conclusions.
