Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

This Could Have Been Gulfstream's Finest Hour

After the last two rounds of lay-offs, Gulfstream was lean to the point of bloody. There was no fat. The people who were left literally lived, breathed and unfortunately died for the company. The people who were left were the best of the best. That a full 699 of them were dumped in the trash when this is a TEMPORARY downturn is the definition of short sightedness. I am beyond words. I will survive. I already have two interviews and a likely job offer, but oh, my, would I have loved to devote the rest of my career to GS. I respect my former coworkers so very much. I've had many great notes from so many of them expressing shock at my firing, and wishing me well. But I pity them as they desperately cling to the hope that the next round, it won't be them. It's like a sickness. Gulfstream could have battened down the hatches, weathered the storm and come out on the other side the best of the best. Instead, they threw their greatest assets overboard.

@"An a&p only means"- You've missed the whole point. A licence opens doors. Go clean the sealant out of your fingernails.

Some of the people who were part of earlier RIFs were also "the best of the best". I have seen a lot of talented people walk out of this company in the past 10 years. Some involuntarily, others voluntarily. Many of them are happier and doing better. Best of luck to all of you.

I've seen what people are left in the facility i use to work in and the phrase too many chiefs not enough Indians mean anything. Out of 19 people 9 were leaders or managers

An a&p only means that you can regurgitate information and most of the testing is a joke. Ive worked with many so called A&P mechanics and im not impressed. I've worked aviation military and military contractor for 20yrs. Never needed an A&P. Could work circles around most schooled A&P mechanics. Nothing beats experience. Besides A&P school doesnt really teach you s*** about rotary wing other than 1 chapter. You are not better because you have 1. Just saying

Gulfstream will hurt when buyers see how cutthroat they are and decide to go with someone else like bombardier or falcon and so on.

Not true. We got rid of some real d—beat no talent hacks this round. It needed to happen. We were hiring techs without A&P’s and letting them loose on government program aircraft. That situation was not ok. That being said we could’ve dropped a lot of spineless managers in Appleton too. Their lack of backbone caused us to lose some irreplaceable talent.

Gulfstream is rushed design, false image now.

This purge is another exhibition of distorted reasoning by the top men. Reminds me of the year production and completions were furloughed for the entire month of July. The company then paid crazy overtime trying to catch up the rest of the year. I always liked what some of the engineering guys said- "Chaos creates cash!".
