Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

I get it

I get it. Without giving away my identity, I’ve been with Gulfstream for a while. Company has treated me very well at times and very badly at others. I don’t think anyone wanted this lay-off and I’m really torn up by some of the names I hear were caught up in it. I personally think that the LT should shed a member or two, but everyone does what they have to do. This whole Covid thing is a scam, but because government has bought into it (with media and politicians) we have to deal with it and the reduction in sales. If LT thinks they can discontinue exemp OT long term and get same results they are as out of touch as I think they are. Also, if they think people working from home are putting the same time as people that are “essential” and working on site- they are nuts. It’s going to be a tough 5 months, but I think after that, many laid off will be back. All I want is LT members to stop relying on their reports and talk to the “people that make it happen”. If they do decisions will change for the better. God Bless

Stop bashing those working from home. “We” were putting just as much time if not more than in the office. Our workload never decreased. Imagine sitting at your kitchen table for 40 hours a week or more. Everyone out their time in and everyone got laid off.

The great leaders at the top are gone. The last one retired in March. LF used to wear a cintas uniform and hang around the tool crib window to talk to mech.s. They didn't have a clue who he was. He wanted to know what was going on in mx. MB and his henchmen don't care. I`ve seen him promote some despicable, cruel people to top positions. Elitist. This elitist attitude is very established in Long Beach. Years ago the director at the completion center told us all, in effect,- "Don't expect to retire from here. Those days are gone."

You don’t have to be a capable leader to recognize bad ones.

It’s amazing to see how many competent and knowledgeable people there are on this site that know how to run this company or any company for that matter based on their personal experiences, and how to react when something like COVID causes business to suffer.

In my opinion LT seems to be a little top heavy an out of touch with the reality on the hangar floor. I have a lot of respect for Gulfstream but the over the late 10 years things seem to be heading down hill. That being said I think most companies in the industry are having the same/similar issues.

With all due respect, I dont understand how covid is a scam. You're saying there is no illness going around and we do not have 70,000 americans dead? I'm just trying to have a conversation about it. I know 6 people in NY, CA and Belgium who have died.

I agree with the comment of "fear" being the encouragement. People at my department are doing the work of 3 people now, and they don't complain in fear of being fired too now, after they had seen good people let go.

I’ll bet Mark Burns is too “good” to read this site. I knew him back when he was on a rescue team. Different guy now. Political POS

The worst part for those left is we now know no matter how long you have been at GAC, no matter how good a job you do...a RIF can come along and you are done. How does that encourage commitment? To me it only encourages fear. Captain Obvious

Don’t forget the people you are dealing with, they let Dan Nale go 4 years late on his schedule and 300% over budget. Why do you think we are in this position?
