First off, I understand from recent news that aetna is hiring. Is this in regard to what is recently happening? If you google it you will view news stories that they are hiring, so I was just wondering, why would they be laying off due to the merger that happened? I'm a former worker who worked there a long time, so it is out of curiousity.
Anyway, I was one of the account representatives at this particular location. I found a review on the indeed website.
I would like to post below exactly as it was written. I left out the exact city, but it is in the west san fernando vally and it is in a building that also has aetna in the same location. You may look it up on indeed also. I agree with what is said below completely. I would like to add that I was there a long time and there were no improvements made during that time. They even failed to update california laws that required a course in harrasment policies, that would not just include s-xual harrasment but harassment in general. I know this because even though I am no longer there, another employee I know there told me about it, since this other permanent employee, follows the california laws closely. A serious issue that could get them in trouble. The one other important issue is the complete lack of more diversity and talent. There were no new ideas as well. The one thing I also had an issue with, was during the greatest economy, supposedly the world and history has ever seen, why you wouldn't take a week or even more time off to try and find something else, if you do not enjoy it there. I heard constant complaints from all the departments. I understand vacation time should only be used for having fun and being with family, but at a certain point, if you hate what you are doing, then take some time out for yourself and find something better. You are after all, supporting yourself and your family. They already had a permanent job, that is a plus, when you apply to another place. There is also another company that is aetna in the building, that had several floors, and a whole floor on the first floor, devoted to comfortable eating areas, and large screen televions, where you can buy food throughout the day. The employee who said this to me, who is still at this location, was not allowed to go in however, since security was there and it was only for aetna workers. One of the aetna employees even encouraged this person to apply to the website because they were desperately hiring. This person I know, didn't even ask or talk to this aetna employee originally, she just brought it up to her, with encouragement to check out the career site all knowing that this person was with another company already. If you hate your job and stay there, and don't even try to make a change, then I believe that is your own fault. I understand loyalty and not wanting to lose benefits, but at a certain point you should make a change in an environment where the economy is supposedly, doing tremendously for a lot of people. Yes, I understand not everything is perfect, and you may not get the job, but what harm would it have done to at least try and move on. The complaining out loud also bothered me because they apparently don't remember the 2008 financial crises. Anyone that suffered through that experience have somewhat been permanently scarred. They should just be somewhat happy to have a long career here. I understand about the layoffs due to the merger, but to just focus on that constantly, is really not helpful. Again, I hated it there also, but that is the reason I left rather than chose to stay. I moved on for the better. Also another gripe is why complain about what is going on out loud. The company also provided the ability to remote work which a lot of places still do not have. Why not complain about it during your remote work time, rather than disturbing those around you, while you are trying to do your own work as best as you can, so you yourself don't get a laid off as well. It was really being inconsiderate.
The one thing I have to disagree with the statement below, is in regard to the benefits. Every review I have ever seen, always states that the company they are in, has excellent benefits and health insurance. Has anyone read a review saying they have bad benefits and health insurance? Every permanent company I have been to has adequate benefits and health insurance or the bare minimum to keep you there. Unless you have been to a lot of other places, it is very hard to make a comparison as to what is better or worse than the other. Also in regard to the remote work. That is actually a preference, since I and a lot of people would prefer coming in to work each day. It does not seem like work otherwise, but that is just my own view.
Anyone hopefully the person does not mind me posting this below. It was taken from indeed. I left out the city, but you can find the review on the indeed career site itself. Here is the post which I agree with below. I do not know who this was. I was not in that particular department or area.
Here is the review below from the indeed career site.
Aetna is a collection of employees who have been there for a long time. Meaning all processes are outdated, which means no innovation, and work is doubled. No one is open to new ideas or processes. Senior employees feel that their time with the company allows for them to be unprofessional with no consequence. Management is afraid to speak up and correct those behaviors.. this makes anyone new feel uncomfortable. The work could be less if their processes were improved. But, the environment is absolutely toxic and the pay is awful. I would not recommend working there.
Whoever also wrote this, states that the one plus was that aetna has great medical benefits and they allow you to work from home. I disagree with this also, but I wrote my views above already.
