Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Tipping point.

It is very apparent that we have lost all confidence in management and the organization. Most Gulfstream workers are extremely intelligent so the pathetic tactics used by management only cause loathing. Clearly they don’t listen to us and constantly erode our pay and benefits to cover their poor decisions and fatten their compensation. I promise you, things will not change until we organize a union to force them to take us seriously. Gulfstream makes a huge profit even after stacking useless management sky high. Their solution for many years has been to create management positions to “fix” problems but are too brain dead to realize doing so only destroys the organization’s ability to run efficiently. All hope has been lost that a positive change will happen so we are essentially backed into a corner and forced to organize.

First to reply said- "All a union is going to do is further degrade the work ethic of people in the company." To a degree, you are quiet correct. As long as people are treated with typical human dignity, all will be well. The attitude of the company over the past 1-2 years has reflected a change in their perspective of the workforce. I first actually saw it in the condescending attitudes exhibited during all hands events. So, as an individual having to deal with such, it is hopeless. No traction to be had for your concerns. The only aspect of a union that I favor is the contract. We'd have a contract. To make reference to. In most cases, you were either screwed or you weren't. Not in all, of course. So for now, it seems like a "tipping point ", as the old cliche goes. For me, I am now in favor of.

Gulfstream used to be a great place because management treated us good so we wouldn’t form a union like the rest of the aerospace industry. Once they realized that we gave up is when they started to screw us over at every opportunity. Most workers in manufacturing companies end up organizing eventually. First it was the eastern US so companies moved manufacturing to the Midwest. Then the Midwest workers realized they were getting shafted and stood up for themselves. Now the companies are flocking to the South and it’s our time to stop being taken advantage of.

I don't get you anti union folks. Gulfstream and GD have been chipping away at benefits with no recourse or say in it as employees. There are always a few bad apples in any barrel. Union or not. I personally hate having to sell myself every uear in hopes of getting a minimal raise. If we were union, Maybe we wouldn't have this high deductible health plan. Maybe our pension would still be around. At least we would have the ability to negotiate before they try to pull this BS. Open your eyes. We as employees, without representation, are totally exposed in open field with a thousand snipers aimed at us.

I’m not really for a union, esp in a right to work state, but I’m totally with you on the bad decisions that management makes. In fact, we keep making the same bad decisions on every new program and it’s costing us tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions. No wonder they have to do these awful layoffs. Everyone knows this from the mechanics to senior engineering management. We all know where the big problems are going to crop up. And yet, we put new people in charge of these areas and then wonder how we f—ked up again.

I’ll give 100:1 odds this was not written by a GAC employee. Every one of these Union posts read like a bad soap opera script. You union folks really should spend more on you’re social marketing firm.

All a union is going to do is further degrade the work ethic of people in the company. You enable people to lean on a union and you enable them to start slacking off. Then this will happen every other year. Gulfstream will ebb and flow just like every other aviation business. We are experiencing layoffs right now because the entire PLANET is in economic despair. The entire aviation industry is hurting. Yeah management s—s but the sooner we all realize we are a number, the better. Gulfstream and Gen Dyn have one goal...profit.
