Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Laid off - need contracting advice

I heard Chipton-Ross (https://www.chiptonross.com/search.aspx) is a great aerospace job shop and like all of you, I need to find a new job now...used to this mismanagement and thinking about contracting. I put in all this overtime and effort for Gulfstream with no reward and looking to maximize my income.

Engineering contracting is pretty dead right now unless you have an active secret clearance or higher. There are permanent jobs out there though. Check out Northrop in Melbourne Fl, Lockheed in Atlanta and Orlando, and Boeing in Oklahoma and Philly. Newer companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin have numerous openings as well. It will be a month or two before you can be onboarded due to covid19 concerns. Unemployment around $900/wk max now (normally $365/wk) to hold you over if Gulfstream doesn’t offer anything. The great thing about all these companies is you won’t have to work for someone that went to Georgia Southern or Mercer!

Not to be a downer, but I've applied with every contract house since I was let go in the October m—acre. They all are telling me the same thing. No over is hurting, and those who are are most likely reclaiming their own they've let go.

Been contracting for over 35 years and Chipton-Ross is one of the best. As far as what is happening in the employment picture, here is my take: Business and limited capacity jets will be on the rebound because of the social distances aspect of flying. Large jest such as the 737, Airbus line of jets will be losing money because of distancing requirements. True small jets will charge more per passenger mile but passengers want safety and the occupants will be more easily tracked if they come down with the Chinese Communist Party virus. Employment will rebound probably within the year with low wages for people desperately seeking work (remember this is a capitalist society) and GD taking advantae of the situation and then seeing they can't get enough workers will then explode wages to get the people they need(super high inflation).

I’ve worked with Chipton Ross before and they’re good. Things are not good in the contract world right now though. There is some work in defense and space. Get on it quickly since Boeing is laying off 16000 from their commercial division. Sorry to hear you were laid off.
