Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

North Belt - Prepare for Monday

Just walked across campus. Deserted. So many PACKING BOXES stacked high in the lunch areas and office floors in ALL the buildings I passed through. Monday will be the first day of RECKONING when everyone is back from furlough. Best of luck to all.

I left Halliburton a few weeks back, it had a lot of good people there, many are very smart and work hard. But top leadership needs to get a makeover, who did not have a plan or a vision, plus with horrible communication skills.

Schlumberger employee here. We are not far behind. My office alone has lost about 70% of the workforce. We are all just waiting to get that call at this point.

If you’ve been working from home you’re still supposed to work from home. (That is if you’re able to). Email was sent out mid week.

Anyone know if the dumbA$$ SUITS in the Admin building notified security to open up the gates for easy entry in the morning or all us shmucks need to clog up the feeder of Beltway 8 and go thru the main gate, like herding cattle to the slaughter house during BLOODY MONDAY.

Who said it? More speculation. Need something better here. It sound like the CEO will be the only one left. I think it just makes people neverous. We all know it is coming but just like a hurricane we just need to brace for it. There is nothing we can do to stop it.

They’re using skype to layoff people from NB because the stay at home order is still in effect for harris county. This applies to the ones that can work from home. The boxes are at NB and have shipping stickers to pack up peoples stuff being laid off via skype. Atleast thats what was said.

All these people claiming layoffs aren’t happening at NB or won’t be that many are going to be shocked next week. Layoffs are 100% happening and not in small amounts. Enjoy your delusions for the rest of the weekend.

Unless they plan to move people around for social distancing. Some of us are about an arm length away. Who really knows what going to happen and to which groups? The people that have the list aren't saying much. So at bets we have a lot of speculation. My guess is that the group that did not get affected in December will not get affected. I remember that some did not get affected.

Who’s to say Saudia and Russia won’t pull what they did again once oil prices recover. This industry will always have downturns in the US because we are dependent on the decisions that oil rich countries take.

This is not 100 times worse than 2015-2016. Demand will start coming back by fall. That’s the only reason for the drastic drop in oil prices. Countries are opening back up, sure not at levels before the virus but they are opening. If we hadn’t had the virus and Saudi and Russia pulled what they did it would have been a $5-$10 dip in oil prices for a couple weeks and would have already recovered. This virus is the ONLY reason for what’s going on, and it’s slowly getting under control.

All of the people on here posting about how it won’t be that bad and will probably only last a week and then be done with, are not connected with reality.

This is way worse than 2015/2016. Revenue is about to fall off a cliff and our customers aren’t slowing down, they are stopping everything in a lot of cases. I bet they shut down whole buildings on campus, like Plaza 1 and 2 and push those that are left to work from home.

Layoffs will also continue until they are done. I would expect weekly reductions for months and then monthly as needed with the evolving market through the rest of the year. This isn’t a dip in the market. This is a bar fight for survival as an oilfield service company.

FTE approx cost of 200-250k/year. 1B reduction could be 4k to 5k people losing their job

I think about 1000 to 2000 at North Belt sound right but the number needs to include contractors that the only way this will work. Also managers and up need to be in the mix. Well good luck everyone.

@fzd+14JdvbcJ Yes I see the difference between 80,000 and 55,000. What I’m saying is that when we had 80,000 we lost 10,000 that took us down to 70,000. We didn’t lose another 25,000 in 2016. The rest of the reductions were from 2016 to 2020 by eliminating redundant camps and due to the failure of the Baker merger. And nearly half of those 25,000 were let go in October through December last year I think it was around 8,000. During the last downturn It was a 12.5% reduction. This time it’s also been about a 12.5% reduction. We have about 2 more weeks and then it will be over mostly unless the market tanks again which by all accounts isn’t going to happen. Heck we lost almost 500 people today alone. We’ve got another 1,000 or so left most likely

How badly has R&D/Technology been hit thus far? I’m an Ex-R&Der at NB and am loathed to ask old colleagues how things for the obvious reasons.

You said it was 10,000 when Hal had 80,000. You then said Hal had 55,000. What is the math between 55k and 80k? Read reports. Your own math is 25k. Seeing as how I was there, we all read the reports and watched as there were 32k people let go during the last O&G crash. Generally, you are right, the cuts are smaller, usually around 200-500 a week when they occur. Either way, tough time and it s—s. Another downturn for the industry. If anyone thinks that the cuts will end next week, you have not been around Hal much. They go on for some time. And many are correct, usually there is not a mass cut, it is a slow bleed.

The % depends on your group and how they were staffed. There are some IT functions being outsourced to India just like global master data. I'd assume IT, tech, r&d etc will feel ~35% cuts. Supply chain, sourcing, logistics will probably be in the 25% range, but, like i said, depends on the groups. The new question becomes, do they start to merge some of the redundant groups together? Do they allow PSLs to have their own niche analysts?

That might be more of a phase two...

Also... I have no Intel... Just hearsay and conjecture

I personally know 4 people got laid off from NB during the furlough period .
What would prevent the company from laying off in their week on during the furlough?

Oh for the boxes , you said they were empty .
Then , they could be for anything.

Stop BS and get a life

Oh it will be a mass layoff. NB didn’t lay off yet due to furloughing the employees. Furlough will end this week and everyone goes back Monday. The boxes are true. I wish i could upload a pic for you to see. Boxes are empty with shipping labels and will be loaded up with personal items once the person is laid off then shipped to them.

I am telling you no mass layoff is going to happen . If anything , it will be some here and some there .
Why would they wait to mass lay-off people in NB ? They could have done it this week already .
As we get closer to the date of last layoffs, the number goes down .

Plus they usual lay-off people at the end of their pay checks . Which mid and end of the month .
Mark my words .

Also you can tell the OP is BSing .Did he go to each floor and check to see there are boxes ?
HR would never place boxes with personal belongings on the lunch area .
Come on , guys . Have some common sense

We didn’t lose 32k people in 2015/2016. It was 10,000 and that was when we had 80,000 people. What crack are you smoking? Mass Layoffs will continue to end of next week. Probably going to hit northbelt corporate hard during that time. Then it will be sporadic small ones. We’ve lost about 7,000 people this time around. My guess is we lose another 1,500-2,000 then it’s done. We had 55,000 at the beginning of the year now we have 48,000.
