Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

True Character ?

Disappointed that financial challenges have caused an almost complete loss of character, values, and integrity in some folks. Unfortunately, the current financial situation has REVEALED folk's character, rather than building it. Bullying, intimidation, and manipulation are NOT corporate values ( not for the employees, anyway).

Personal and professional legacies will being lost here, due to the inevitable years of lawsuits, and dissection of tactics employed.

I am not an Oxy lifer and worked for several other large companies so have perspective.
It’s only been in the past 3 years that Oxy started to act irrationally and random . Oxy was a well run and respected company under the former Chazen leadership. Unfortunately the Board did not do a good job planning for the future and choosing the right CEO. The current leadership had no experience to lead a company and took it down because of ego and a really bad M&A guy with way too much power. It’s sad to see something so great blow up so quickly.

No worries Jeff Bennet will fix it all! ... He will promote some of his other 30year old boys to lead these initiatives #WeWin #NoDEBTH #STRONG ... we all are in good hands!

@sgp+14IGcMPy I believe Chazen said in the town hall in 2015 something to the effect of "As we have seen many times, it is impossible to get fired for stupidity"

Success at Oxy is measured by how many asses your lips are glued to. Middle management doesn't know what a successful organization looks like if it slapped them in the face.

He always talks to himself. And he manipulates the upvoting and downvoting systems to upvote his own posts and downvote others multiple times. If only he had this much dedication to his work, he could have been successful at Oxy instead of getting fired by “bigots” and “bullies”.

Welcome to the real world. Since the 70s companies no longer were "loyal". Most people didn't notice. Fortunately I had a mentor who pulled me aside and said look around 85% of these salaried people will lose their jobs and they have no fall back an no clue. In my early years I was seen as "unstable", jumping from one job to another, but the answer which freaked HR out every time was, I finished my project, I was bored, here are the references....and more money, more money, more money....do I have a pension, no, nobody does except government employees who manage to put up with the bull for 40 years. Most are ex-military where they were taught to be stupid and not ask questions.

Wrong, no one wants to work for a company that is 55 billion in debt and on the brink of chapter 11 bankruptcy. No one wants to work for a company with 500+ middle level managers/team leads that micromanage at every step of every work process. No one wants to work for a company that cuts 30% of its workers salary to make up for cash that was thrown at WB to close on the horrible APC acquisition. That is what no one wants.

No one wants to work for a company with a bunch of complainers.

@syl you are wrong check your facts before you post.
Oxy by far has more layoff board posts, most frequent and most recent. Even CHK does not have as many posts as Oxy. Yes, I agree, the industry is going down the tubes, but what is happening at Oxy is pure and simple: very very bad management. No excuses.

Go look at Apache, Marathon, Chesapeake, Devon, and Southwestern. They all have as much as us. People don't usually come to these boards to praise, and do more to complain. The whole industry is going down the tubes, and most management look at for number one.

I don't blame them. Oxy likes non performers and slackers!

I’ve been checking out the layoff pages for many other companies and no others have this huge amount of unrest and disgust with their leadership. Most others still have trust and hope. The stuff happening on this board can’t be blamed on the state of the industry. It’s squarely on Oxy leadership.

OP, such vague and non-specific language. You could be referring to any company in any industry experiencing difficult financial times. Care to provide one solid example that proves you work here?

Oh Karma Troll. you are so transparent. You can't even fake being an employee.

It is very difficult for the families...corporations have lost ethics and values as well. Greed has taken over..Not being transparent to loyal folks who gave their 15-20 years are treated as c-ap. It is only about who you know and not what you know these days specially organizations like ours. We forced these folks to be the way they are now. If we had acted sensibly we would not have to see this at all.

Lol, yeah, am fully expecting my children's future MBA classes to include a case study on the toll it takes on your legacy if you punish your good and valued employees for your mistakes.
