Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Cafe closing

Hearing there is a meeting on Monday in regards to the permanent closure of cafe. Would be unfortunate but not surprising considering the environment of the country and the fact that the cafe loses money anyway.

If there’s a replacement, I hope it’s Starbucks, but imo, I’d prefer them keeping sams cafe around, they make good food that’s unique to sams.

In the club I work at, our cafe made a ton of money before the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then yeah they are not making money and we have a ton of pallets in our freezer just taking up space. My opinion is this... OPEN IT BACK UP!!! Sell the product you do have and then close it down, rent it to a 3rd party, whatever. I don't care it is the bane of my existence

Has there been any new word about cafe closing? Been with Sam's many years and have been passed over, screwed over and used. Would be nice to know if it's time to start looking to move departments or find a new job!

20 years ago before the Cafe came about the building I was at had a Pizza Hut. Also, we stopped selling t-b-cco 2 years ago, and haven't missed it. It's a dead category.

Club manager conference call tomorrow entitled "reopening TBC and the future of cafe". Be on the lookout for a club meeting about this soon.

Has there been any news on this? I went to put in an order today and the category was gone. Makes me nervous.

I've been saying for years that they need to close down cafe and rent out that space to a good company.
Target did it with Starbucks, Walmart did it with Subway.

Cafe makes 0 money and is just there to compliment the members shopping experience. Rent out the space to another company and make some money.

Just got done with a virtual tour. MM had quite a few questions about cafe staffing and if they were trained in other areas of the club. Wierd considering the rumors. Just saying, be ready.

The company has made no secret that they are getting out of the t-b-cco business. Or are you not paying attention.

As far as cafe is concerned i have heard this on more than one occassion from a very reliable source. Expect cafes to go third party by the end of Q3.

Not only do they not care about café, they also don't care about t-b-cco, or the members in t-b-cco, or the t-b-cco associates, we are just a thorn in there side.

As a cafe associate I would love this. Either move me out or fire me. Dont care. Nobody in the club cares about cafe anyway

They don't have faith in the employees to keep it clean enough

Can confirm something, I'm a manager and while writing prepared foods this week noticed my demand is down 178 hours....definitely seems possible.

I always wondered why Sam's didn't rent that space to Subway or some other fast food chain.

Yeah it makes sense, they didn't get a raise this year anyways. Real easy to cut them all. #DrainTheSwamp
