Lance says all no agreement employees to take one week of unpaid leave each month. He forgot to add that the employees will be expected to work during that week. 😱

This is still the best company in America to work for even if you don't get paid the whole year.

They’ll get it back in a bonus next year.

Those people in North Platte need to come to the realization North Platte is just as vulnerable as the rest of the system. Bailey yard isn’t special the North Little Rock yard is keeping up with them, and the questionable numbers the shop is putting out isn’t going to go unnoticed when $hit finally hits the fan. North Platte isn’t untouchable anymore and it never was untouchable.

Totally agree that this is an excellent test of running a shrinking railroad with 30% fewer non-agreement employees. An effective 7% (RULA) annualized pay cut for 2020 is nothing, the non-agreement cuts must go to the bone and be sustainable for 18-24 months. Clearly the targets for total workforce reductions have not been met, they will likely need to be revised as the prior reductions were based on a different revenue profile (Pre-COVID19). This only gets worse, not better. Look at projections for Energy (Oil, Coal, Frack sand), Intermodal (domestic and international), Automobile production, Industrial commodities and even Agriculture harvest. There is no legitimate justification for maintaining status quo over the next 2 years...right size it fast and be done with it.

For agreement folks tey
With them disbanding tge Awrr boards . As you know board sizing based on mileage therefore reduced mileage equals direct furlough for a lot of folks to be forthcoming

Just like i told everyone on this site. North Platte will not have any layoffs, but noone believed me. North Platte Bailey yard is the most productive on mechanical on locomotives. Can afford to lose us! At least we all knw we have all have a job even tho we have to take a week off for next 4 months not bad

I heard UP starting a new OMT class for November with only applicants from diploma mills.

To the train dispatchers.... you all better be signing your A card's.... do you really want to stay part of the management team??? Remember you are still reporting to work stations crammed into the bunker... as Mission Critical Employees.... and now you get to do it for 75% of you normal pay don't be a company sell out....

This explains why every OMT and manager I knew at UP was message-bombing me on LinkedIn asking if my company was hiring. We're not.

To those of you trapped at UP during this, I'm sorry.

Come on @wza! He is giving up 25% of his salary for four months. That is a major sacrifice he is willing to give to help his UP family out.. 🙄
Bet it don’t affect his bonus and stock options for the year though

25% pay cut for 1/3 of the year @ 1.5m (rough estimate) =$125,000. He set to earn over 12m total with bonus and stock. So it’s like 1% pay cut for him. What a joke

Lance needs to donate his entire paycheck and stock options for the entire year like other ceos. After all he always talks about the UP family. Then his words might mean something.

People taking a week off but they’ll be working the same hours because the people left will have to work extra days while they’re gone so when they come back they’ll be covering for other people taking their week off. Just another way of screwing then over. But but but I thought they just hired some new managers?????

I believe this is a test as well. If it can function with a 25% reductions per week then it should be able to the rest of the time as well.

this is worse than the furloughs they promised. Just make the cut and give people a separation package. Who wants to be a manager? Lol. Not everyone at once.

Pissing off every member of your “team” is not a game winning strategy. I don’t believe any of us agreement folks are feeling like team players any more and I think this will just further alienate the management from the executives. This company is going down the drain!

This is a test to see if productivity goes down. If it doesn’t then they can lay-off more nonagreement employees at the end of the year.

Well they can just dip into there unemployment benefits from the rrb. Or arent they salary so what does it matter if they get a week off?

This is going to go over well with the non agreement lemmings, you have to take a week unpaid off and a pay cut. Wonder how many will exodus out after this decision, and this still isn’t going to solve the hemorrhages that have started to get worse. Completely restructuring from the chief officers down to the lowest manager and getting rid of the redundant managers, vps, and the evps is the only thing at this point that will show anything

“I recognize this is a significant adjustment,” said Chairman Lance Fritz. “I considered many possible scenarios, including furloughs or permanent workforce reductions, but ultimately decided that RULA would address our short-term needs.”

UP has enacted several cost-saving measures, but they are not sufficient to offset the significant decline in volume. Accordingly, the railroad also is implementing changes that will impact our workforce. Executives, including the board of directors, will take a 25% salary cut from May through August. Additionally, nonagreement employees will be required to take an unpaid leave of absence for one week each month from May through August.
