Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Let's Be More Positive

There is a lot of negativity being posted here! I know that times are tough and people are tired of being stuck at home because of the Pandemic. But things aren't that bad. We should focus on the positive and not the negative!

Yes, a few people will be getting laid off, but they'll get generous severance packages and will do fine. The rest of us still have jobs! Good jobs working for a great company!!! Yes, the pay will be a little lower for a little while, but we can get through this. I know OXY and I know that we'll be rewarded for sticking this out.

We've got a great team of wonderful people. We've got world class assets that are even better as a result of the APC acquisition. Prices won't stay low forever and when they go up, we'll be in a great position to take advantage of them. Our stock is better positioned to rise than any other oil company. Point of fact, Yahoo Finance shows us as undervalued and predicts a 25% return!!!

These are difficult times, but we'll get through them. NOBODY could have predicted the pandemic or that prices would go this low, so let's stop with the BLAME game. Look at the upside! Think of this as a time of opportunities! People that keep it together when everyone else is panicking are the people that win biggest in these situations. We've got an excellent leadership team, great operations staff, and good support staff. We can and will survive this and we will once again be one of the best companies in America!!!

Carl and Warren might push for real changes.

OP

You must be off your meds, a member of Oxy’s EC or both!

So much illogical and self-serving about your message.

Oxy’s “excellent” leadership team got $10B in financing from Buffett to AVOID a shareholder vote because they knew that the “deal” would be k–led by shareholders. If that “deal” had never been made, Oxy would be in much better shape; not great but at least in a survivable situation.

And the chance of oil prices going lower were already expected when Oxy made the deal, by any prudent operator.

Can’t blame the APC EC, they represented APC shareholders very well.

Can’t blame Warren Buffett, he represented himself and BH shareholders very well.

VH and her EC destroyed the most capital ever in a single M&A transaction, at least for the O&G sector.

And all those Legacy APC assets to be sold off to pay down debt, all are now worth a lot less but the same debts must be paid off.

Moreover, VH and her EC made a deal that ends up sdmizing Legacy Oxy employees in favor of Legacy APC employees, both in short- and long-term. Much easier to lay off L-Oxy, L-Oxy got lower VSP payouts and now it looks like surviving L-Oxy are going to get a much bigger pay cut than L-APC.

Overall a shtshw

ur right that nobody could have predicted what has happened..but VH and her ilk could've made the smart call on NOT buying APC..regardless of what the future holds, that put an anchor around our necks from which we will never recover, and was horrible management.

OP: The part that actually made me spit out my drink was:

"Good jobs working for a great company!!!"

Are you f—ng kidding me! This company bites the big one! I do agree that I'd rather take my 30% temporary pay cut than some small severance package and be out looking for a job in this market. For that I am thankful and am trying to look at the positives. But there are few true positives in this situation. Our future prospects are dismal. Our company is bottom of the barrel. My stock is barely worth the toilet paper I stocked up on. Our management is worse. Thus, the reason I'm drinking. Cheers.

Totally disagree. Oxy is the worst company I have worked for by far. Politics worse than Washington DC and some astonishingly poor performing people who seem to last forever.

Glad I got out. If you're worth your salt, run.

Thank you for posting this. You took the words out of my mouth. I am honestly struggling with this 30% reduction BUT better than being laid off and continue to work at a job I love. I’m looking to get work on weekends somewhere, so my SS and savings won’t be so affected. Any suggestions. Amazon? I’m praying this is short in duration and we go back to normal.

Bwahahahahaha! Sounds like a middle manager. The one that is oblivious to everything and lies and lies and lies. Let’s get the facts straight: Oxy is great at lying.

Icahn wants his money back and then some. Oxy is for sale and will be sold off as soon as possible.

If your stock drops by 80% and then gains only 25% of that.... you are still in the dumps. E.g. 100 down to 20 up to 25.

Come on cheerleader.. you really believe that anyone will "reward" you for sticking this out.
