Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Store Closings ??

Daunt closed all the Waterstones last week and today, he closed his own Daunt Books. Several locations across the country have temporarily closed for Barnes and Noble, but when are they all going to close to protect the staff and encourage the customers to "stay home." It's not safe for the employees and "social distancing" in the stores is a joke. Daunt needs to follow the example of other retailers, and close the stores for at least two weeks.

As the other commenter mentioned, more stores will close permanently than reopen. I worked at the home office until very recently in NYC.
Use this time to look for work.
Even if stores do re-open, I suggest looking for alternative employment at a company with less shaky finances. This company cannot even afford to pay into its 401k anymore. Notice was sent out at corporate that starting in May, company contributions to individuals' 401k would be stopped. What a joke.
At the very best, Barnes is not a growing company. Pragmatically, this company is likely to go out of business within the next 5 years and that's being generous.

I work in CORP.
Believe me it’s been discussed.
A lot of stores ( the non productive ones) will not reopen.
Plan your future now.

Don’t blow it this time Booksellers!
Don’t jump back in to help pack the store up, so it can close down. Use this time to secure a steady “essential” job !

Trump wants to 're-open' American retail in a week or two or by Easter for a 'resurrection' as the TV reporter just said. Then Daunt will re-open in the states that are closed now and you can all happily go back to your low wages and social distance every day worrying if you are bringing a virus home to loved ones.

Daunt closed all the Waterstones & his stores because the UK went into lockdown. No non essential businesses allowed to be open.

Well, as an employee (until about an hour ago), I can tell you that they are closing. Mine just closed today and laid off all of their employees who had fewer than six months with them. So, yay? Doesn't make a difference to our safety, because, hello, we're all going to have to find an emergency job now, anyway. So, now I just have the honor of scrambling to get a temp job unloading trucks at Walmart to pay my rent and take care of an elderly parent with dementia, instead. I do get why businesses are closing to prevent the spread, but the people who work(ed) there do still need to buy food.
