This analyst has consistently tracked IBM over the years and is tough but fair. The article does a birds-eye from Palmisano's Smarter Planet to Ginni's CAMSS to her Cognitive, now to Krishna's "Chapter 2". The analyst diligently reports the disappearance of buzzwords in Annual Reports which dismayingly implies that neither Sam nor Ginni had conviction of strategy. In agreement, every graph in the article points downward. The ultimate surprise is the quote from Kavanaugh that the board now (finally) believes that IBM should be led by a technologist. And all that bluff and bluster was rewarded by millions in bonuses.
"Chapter 2" is data+AI+hybrid cloud. Even with IBM's heft Krishna already faces pressure on all three fronts from leaner competitors who have market share. Like Zuckerberg knows Facebook, hope Krishna has personally lived and breathed "Chapter 2" - this is IBM's moment of truth.
