Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Dear Bob, WFH is not working

Dear Bob, appreciate the email to employees today about the mandatory WFH situation but working from home is not working. Many employees don't have a home office, many employees now also have kids and pets and neighborhood noises distracting during work hours, don't have proper desks or chairs or monitors or docking stations or mice or keyboards or headsets, are burdened with slow VPN access, cannot get ahold of local peers as easily for adhoc collaboration. We have concerns about health, food, TP adding to the frustrations of a poor temporary office setup. Kids are going stir crazy. It's just not working well at all. Expect impact to major programs. Sincerely, your engineering work force.

I like WFH; I'm the only a–hole I have to deal with. :-)

I am willingly working an extra two hours a day because I no longer have to commute. WFH is the most socially responsible policy period, and this is true both during Covid19 and a more typical world. The only issue is it does not fit with the narrative of people only working in certain geo's. Due to WFH, our entire team's productivity is way up. 50" 4k monitor, $110 ergo mouse, private office, and the same chair that they upgraded us to at work in my home office. I think someone else said it best, we are paid OK. We can afford the nice home office goodies. Think of all the CO2 that isn't put into the environment. It's quite nice.

It all depends on your situation. My kids are grown and out of the house and I have a corner office with a beautiful view in a separate building from my house. I have a 1G internet connection and my desk/chair/monitor setup is better than in the office. WFH I have zero distractions or interruptions so I am much more productive than at work in an open office environment.

I guess the difference between OP and me is that I am quite capable of getting my kids to be quiet. It‘s a part of good parenting. Also, I earn enough to afford the few hundred bucks for a desk, a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse. Also, I am not burdened by the hysteria about health, food and TP.

OP is blaming the WFH policy for his own problems.

It is working well for many other smaller companies, just have everyday status meeting and ask what each in the time did. The programs will not suffer.

I disagree, getting more done, AND you don't need to be around Intel psychopaths, 2 birds one stone!

Not to argue, but I am on the other side of this one, actually I have been more productive WFH, and produced more than my baseline during this time.
