5% of our ranks will get their last paycheck next week due to our recent head count reduction (aka redeployment). I am in an Austin based design team.

Most companies are already starting to take a big hit, so it may be too late to job jump (unless it’s to Amazon as they will continue to benefit from shelter at home). Going elsewhere to become the “new guy” just before a recession doesn’t sound wise. Being close to retirement would be another reason to stay at Intel.

However, you can count on Intel reducing their workforce — particularly their US workforce. That’s just what they do (particularly IT, as someone said) and intermingling it with other company layoffs over the next 2 months will allow them to duck/dodge/deflect some criticism.

Gather information daily, be prepared, and make decisions that make sense for you!

Being supply constrained prior to this means that softer demand isn’t a big problem. Until it’s too soft, of course.

Perhaps strong sales of server chips to support the enhanced online society might help keep the company busy in these difficult times ?

I'm cautiously optimistic they aren't going to do mass layoff's during the actual crisis. They didn't during the 2008 financial crisis. And since every companies earnings are going to get smashed they have a big boogey man to point to with corona as the reason. They are being quite supportive and proactive throughout this ordeal. After the dust settles is anyone's guess but i would venture there will be reduction; just not right away. The bad press alone would be incentive enough not to do it. My 2 cents.

Of course there will be LAYOFFS it's the Intel way due to their inability to manage headcount properly. There is already posturing going on to support a significant layoff, look for signs as ramp up hiring in low cost Geo's this will ease USA based layoffs. This is seen in IT, IT Infrastructure, IT security, as well as other IT business units. Good luck people

No layoffs, but Intel is looking into exciting opportunities in manufacturing Smart Toilet Paper. It's the next big thing.
