Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Does anyone know?

I’m a selling associate being laid off at a union store due to the store is closing. Do I get all of my vacation hours (120 hrs) paid out to me when I leave? Store is closing at the end of this February. Are union stores on the same vacation policy pay out as non-union stores?

Insite covers exactly how vacation is accrued by state. 1/12 per moth except for California and Montana, which is 1/52 per week. No one starts with a flat amount at the beginning of the year. What’s there is eligible time for 2020 which has to be accrued based on the percentage mentioned above. States where you get 1/12 per month, you have to work the entire calendar month to get that month’s accrual.

Vacation payout varies significantly by state law. I recommend checking the regulations for where you are based. If you accrue vacation (earn it as you work), you may be entitled to your balance. If you are given a flat amount at the start of the year, you likely will use it. (Based on the most common state laws...but again, check your home state)

No you didn’t have a “build up”....I’m amazed how many people don’t understand how PTO works. Read the message on the MTO page on Insite. What’s on there is you ELIGIBLE hours for 2020 if you are employed the entire year of 2020. It’s what you will EARN in 2020, not what you have already earned. You are not entitled to all that time. Read how you earn it and how much of it per full month worked, usually 1/12 of the eligible hours. There’s a couple of states where the earn is different, but it’s still the same policy.

I was at a non-union store and there was three of us who had at least 6 weeks (240) hour build up and because this was a closing and you are not retiring you are not entitled to your vacation or pto hours...we took the severance package which equals $1000 for every year with the company

Generally speaking, no. The vacation hours showing available on MTO are hours available if you worked all of 2020. This is based off of 2020 work time, not what you worked in 2019.
