Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

For those who are choosing to say: why?

I have my own odd reasons for staying even though the ship is sinking. What are your reasons for staying with Xerox... even if it’s only for a short while.

Clean bath rooms where I can throw up at the stupidity of Management and the chaotic direction of this company .

FYI...many companies with financial challenges are changing vacation policies. Don’t be surprised when they bump employees down to 4 weeks, even though they previously had 5 or 6 weeks.

@rnd+13vwULN9 Thank you for your response. It covers a lot of the reasons I choose to stay, too. I've been with my XBS core for more than 15 years and love my co-workers. Fingers crossed we get on Xerox's vacation schedule as six weeks would be nice!

I like my shift (weekdays), and holidays. Everything else I've found is less money and requires rotating shifts and holiday work.

  • I like the work. No matter what is going on at the top, my day to day job hasn't changed much. There are new challenges and problems to solve every day. That's what I do, and it keeps me creative.
  • The people. I've worked wit the same people for many decades. They have remained the same through Thoman, Burns, Jacobson, and Icahn, I mean, Vistentin. The people at top change, the words they use change, but day to day the people that matter to me don't.
  • The pay. Maybe I'm in a different situation than others, but I'm paid well even with the streak of minimal salary increases. I would not be able to get this pay without moving outside Rochester.
  • 6 weeks vacation. How many companies still offer that? It's a golden handcuff. Even if I wasn't happy with the work or the people or the pay, I'd have to think seriously before giving up the 6 weeks and go to 4.
  • Job market. There are a lot of jobs out there that I could get tomorrow without much effort. I'm not concerned about finding a new job doing something I like, but I'd likely give up some pay and vacation.
  • My personal financial state. I've been working a long time, and I'm pretty much financially independent. If Xerox closed the Webster campus tomorrow, I would be fine to never work another day. I have no reason to look elsewhere, regardless of layoffs and corporate financial state, my days are numbered at Xerox as I'm in the retirement lane anyway. Just need to decide when to get off.

If you like the work and the people, and are mostly satisfied with the pay, don't let all the commotion at the top push you out the door. We've all seen senior management shakeups and organizational changes over the decades, and for the most part they don't impact the individuals. Keep doing what you are doing if you are happy with YOUR work. It's way too easy to let the actions of people at the top hit you emotionally, when they often don't actually impact you.

Just my $0.02 based on my organization. I realize if you are in orgs hit by change in XIM and XDM, the perspectives are different than mine.

Pay. I most likely can't start anywhere else making what I now make at Xerox.

I don't have enough experience to get a better paying job in a similar field. Whenever I find something better I will take it. It's too bad, because I like my job.

Staying until I can find another comparable job. I'm actively looking and I'll leave as soon as I can. No stay bonus for me.
