Thread regarding Sears layoffs

List of 83 remaining Sears stores

This is a list of what I believe to be the remaining 83 Sears stores which are still open and not currently liquidating. I made this list by starting with the state-by-state store listings on https://www.sears.com/stores.html , then removing any stores that are on recent closing lists or for which I found media reports of the store closing.

I list here only locations that the state-by-state listings identify as "Sears Store"s. I do not include Hometown stores, Appliance Outlet stores, Service Centers Repair Drop off Locations, stand-alone Auto Centers (a few still exist), or any other location that is not called a "Sears Store" on the company's website.

The list does include a few locations for which their individual pages, or media reports, identify them as Grand (2), Appliance (1), Appliance & Mattress (3), or Home & Life (3) stores.

Although my list uses the same format as the Kmart List Man, I am not that person.

Please comment here if you know of any non-closing store that I omitted from the list, or if you know (preferably via linking to a trustworthy source) that a store on the list is closed or closing.

OF COURSE TONS OF STORES HAVE CLOSED FROM THIS LIST BECAUSE THIS LIST IS 1 YEAR OLD!!!!!!!!! There have been about 1000 more recent lists made since this ancient one from February 2020! No need to bump this thread with old information that we already all Know about. This is an ancient, obsolete list so OF COURSE there are tons of stores on here that already closed. Come on people, this is getting old now. Post new closures on the newest list, not here.

@5Wwvt+13ukxQev Well, duh, freaking captain obvious. In other news, Sky is blue, & Water is wet. You are posting on a list thread from FEBRUARY 2020! This thread is 1 YEAR OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course tons of these listed stores have closed because this list is about 1 Year old! Why do people insist on bumping old threads with ancient information, like they have some kind of amazing revelation or something?

For a much more current list, try this post: https://www.thelayoff.com/t/17RUhpx3 . There were 61 remaining non-liquidating stores when I posted it, but now there are 60 with the closing of Manchester, Connecticut.

What's the source for your claim that all 12 of the remaining California stores will be liquidated by Christmas? That strikes me as literally impossible, to liquidate 12 stores in just 5 weeks. I've seen nobody else suggest this will happen.

@4usnk+13ukxQev No sh–, Sherlock. LOL, wow, captain obvious. We all Know that already. Why on EARTH are you bumping ancient list thread from February? Looking for a current list of non-closing Sears stores? Try this one:

It is not quite current because Salinas, CA, was subsequently listed for closing, but it's a lot more current than this one from February.

Now that the Kmart store locator has finally been updated (though not completely accurately), I was curious what the Sears store locator at https://www.sears.com/stores.html now looks like.

These are the only "Sears Store"s still shown there (not including Hometown, Outlet, or Auto Centers):

Anchorage, Alaska (Home & Life) – supposedly open Saturdays only, noon-7 pm
Lafayette, Louisiana (Home & Life) – supposedly open Saturdays only, 10 am - 7 pm

West Lebanon, New Hampshire - this is actually a Kmart
Bridghampton, New York – this is actually a Kmart
Bronx, New York – this is actually a Kmart

Schererville, Indiana – this store closed in 2017 ago and should not be listed
Fargo, North Dakota – this is actually a Kmart that closed in 2019 and should not be listed
Jackson, Wyoming – this is actually a Kmart that closed in February and should not be listed

All of the liquidating stores have now been removed from https://www.sears.com/stores.html .

The ONLY "Sears Store"s still listed there are the five in my previous comment here, plus one in Schererville, Indiana which I think closed in 2017.

As of this morning, almost all of the Sears Stores listed at https://www.sears.com/stores.html are stores that are known to be liquidating. These five are not:

Anchorage, Alaska (Home & Life)
Hayward, California
Long Beach, California
Lafayette, Louisiana (Home & Life)
Concord, North Carolina

It is exactly what I said it is: all the stores currently listed at https://www.sears.com/stores.html .

Some of them are known to be liquidating, and I put "- L" after those stores.

@Rdve+13ukxQev I'm confused as to what this list is exactly. Is this the list of go-forward stores? If so, there are many missing. Or is it a list of liquidating stores? What is this list, specifically?

When the Saugus, MA store disappeared from https://www.sears.com/stores/massachusetts.html , I tried phoning it at 781-231-4500.

The recording says it is open from 11 am to 7 pm today and tomorrow, and that the auto center is closed both days. However, when I tried to reach anyone in the hardware department, nobody answered.

The store's official page at https://www.sears.com/stores/massachusetts/saugus/0001053.html redirects to https://www.sears.com/stores/store-closed-404/0001053.html which says the store is closed.

It's probably going to go like this for some or all of the other stores that have been recently removed from the Sears.com store locator. I'm going to stop here.

@Ickr+13ukxQev I Know, right? I don't mind people asking about information that is easily obtainable. But to clog the forum with questions that can easily be answered by a phone call or a google search is just silly. Literally the call would go like: "Hi, is this location closing? Thank you....click".

@Ihuw+13ukxQev Oh, please. Those people get Paid to answer the phone, and I'm sure a 10 Second phone call with a simple question won't hurt them much. For some reason, you are afraid to call them, because you used to ask similar questions on here even before the virus was a thing. I could easily call all those stores for you, in about 3 Minutes combined, and I just might do that, but I'm not going to post what I find out, because I don't want to encourage your silliness by spoonfeeding you. Instead of asking on an anonymous board if some stores closed, pick up a phone and ask them. I'm sure the employees there won't lose Sleep over a customer asking a question in a 10 Second phone call. They are being paid, after all. But hey, you do you man....................

If these stores are still open, the people still working there have enough to worry about without taking phone calls from people asking "are you closed or closing yet?" I'll hold off. However, if any of you happen to live near them, let us know what you see now.

@Gzip+13ukxQev Dude, I don't mean to be rude, but the easiest way to find out what you're asking is to pick up the phone, call those stores, and ask if/when they are closing. Long distance calls are pretty much free now, LOL. You can easily google the phone no.'s for those places.

Regarding the small specialty store formats that I did include: they opened in several stages between 2016 and 2019, and are separate from Sears Hometown (which was spun off in 2012, then re-acquired in 2019).

Fort Collins, CO (Appliances), May 2016: https://www.twice.com/retailing/sears-testing-stand-alone-appliance-store-61482

Pharr, TX (Appliances and Mattresses), June 2017: https://www.twice.com/retailing/sears-opens-appliancemattress-specialty-store-65350

Camp Hill, PA and Honolulu, HI (Appliances and Mattresses), November 2017: https://www.twice.com/retailing/sears-opens-appliance-mattress-stores-while-closing-more-kmarts

It was an arbitrary choice on my (the list-maker's) part. Hometown and Outlet stores were until recently part of a separate corporation, and many were (are?) franchised rather than owned by Sears corporate.

Hello. Can you tell us how you know this? Are there signs up at the store, or have there been news reports or job postings or WARN notices?

(I'm not the "Links or it didn't happen" guy, but I will need documentation of some sort before editing more stores out of this list.)
