Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

The sleepless nights continue

Not sure what is wore, being cut right away, or having this illusion that somehow the layoffs are going to bypass me. This is no way for a grown man to live, that's for sure

When I feel sad I just watch the South Park episode of Indian Jewelry. It's UHG all day.

The writing is on the wall for my team. We are being required to track all hours for work completed and have moved to automating more of our tools. We lost about 12 folks from the RIF last week and a few more in the October RIF.

Nobody is spared... disabled or military.... they will still let you go. It’s just a matter of time.

It’s on the thousands that were laid off. Do you know how large this company is and how many branches it has? 6-7k is probably 0.5%. The last I heard was that the goal was to cut 10% in total including last year’s.

If they’re asking you to document how you do your work no matter what reason/excuse is used (automation, efficiency, transition, etc), they are looking to get rid of you.

Poster - if this is giving you mental no issues, you should look elsewhere and prepare some savings for peace of mind.

They are planning another layoff. It will occur around March 3rd. March 5 they will have a pep talk from the new COO, Erin. Who will blow alot of sunshine up everyone @!@#. And like in the Matrix, everyone will be right as rain as she transitions more and more jobs overseas, because uhc has been all ready earned by medicare that they will lose gold, silver plan contracts if they do not reduce their administrative expenses. Of course instead of firing all the over bloated vice presidents, directors, managers , let's get rid of the workers. Let's offshore to the phillipines and exploit those poor people. Most make 1.37 a day. Yippee. So wichman , witty, and now Erin can all tell the employees what a wonderful vision they have while laughing all the way to the bank and of course selling their c-appy, expensive product to stupid companies while figuring out every step of the way how to screw their clients.

I was let go on Thursday. I had no idea there were more layoffs planned after the layoffs around the holidays. I was completely blindsided by it. They eliminated half of our team.

People who know nothing keep throwing around this 2% number. No way 6k people were let go. That's the population of the Optum HQ. More like 50 people were let go at most.

I think your real answer is you need to find another job immediately, and by immediately like your life depends on it. As a grown man this is something you should be able to commit to and accomplish. Your quality of life will improve greatly.

You need to decide if you want to stay working there knowing the mental toll it's taking on you or if you want to leave on your own terms by finding another job. Morale is low and it's the lowest I've ever seen it. I don't think many people are going to stick and put up with the bs. Update your resume so you're ready to apply for any jobs that interest you. Would it ease your mind to know that you have a some savings to fall back on if you were let go? Can you decrease your 401k contribution to the company match so you can have more money going to your paycheck? Take a look at your budget and see where what things you can cut back now–focus on needs vs wants and go back to that just out of school mindset.

It isn't a way to live. I was in your shoes and the toll was terrible. Glad to have an ending either way. Whether you leave or they decide, it's an ending.

If 2% were already laid off last week, then it's hard to imagine they plan to cut similar numbers in the near future. Even if it's another 2%, the chances are still slim since that means 2 out of every 100 employees. So knowing those odds, I feel fine sleeping at night. In the mean time, I plan to save any bonuses, tax returns, etc to beef up my savings account. That would at least help for the period between the last paycheck and severance.
