Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Position Was Eliminated

I never knew this site existed until yesterday when a former coworker sent me the link. There are positive words on here, and people who are in the same boat; I appreciate the reassurance that there are better days coming. I do believe it as well.

I too, was let go from C&S NY on February 6th. I was also a salaried employee who worked many hours over 40 each week to make sure things got done. I oversaw two territories, traveled non stop, and was responsible for two Marketing teams. I did not have Supervisors to assist with the work load.

What I can say is this......I gave myself two days to be angry/bitter, and now I will let it go, regroup, and move forward.

While at the company I built relationships with two amazing teams of people, many community business partners, providers, and faith based organizations. Take the good things that you got while at UHC and use them as building blocks for the future. Is money going to be tight? Sure it is? Did this come at a bad time? No time is a good time, but I could be run over tomorrow crossing the street to get my mail, and losing my job would not have mattered. The whole situation is so unfortunate, and I am very sorry to everyone affected by the elimination of positions. Use all of your networking to find something better, because you will.
I am going to miss the people; my teams very much. Wishing all the best to all of you. Thank you for the opportunity.

Stop with this nonsense about who wants to hire an older workers. I'm 54 and quit UHG 6 months ago and got a job as an Assistant Corporate Controller. I have lots of friends at UHG and constantly support them and encourage them there is better out there. Lots of older workers seem paralyzed and I think it is watercooler talk like that which is limiting. If you say you are old and can't get hired, then guess what—you won't. Your mind believes what you say. Period.

All I can say, is that this is my second Corporation, and countless layoffs that I have been through. At #1 corp. was laid off after 9 yrs. Hit me hard, and I wasn't able to find a job that I liked: the hours, the people, the work...Then I came to Optum. Thought this would be OK. WAH awesome. Then after two years, the layoffs started and they shook up both teams and managers so badly, morale was horrible.
Plus, I am not in my 20s 30s or 40s...so realistically, who is going to want to hire an older worker? I am not even 60 years old yet. BUT they don't want you if your are not between graduate or 40.
Its very discouraging and CEO's Board members and share holders DO NOT CARE. It is all about the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR (which aint' so mighty lately.) but that's another coversation.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. I was laid off one day after my 65th birthday in the November 2019. I dusted myself off immediately, because in nursing, this is a frequent occurence as nurses are petulant to their peers. I am working for a company who does not hire offshore people and respects our work. All effected will be better off once you dust yourself off. Peace to all.

I was let go in October. After speaking with recruiters at several agencies, I started doing some contracting work a month after I was let go. I told the recruiters that I was open to doing anything within my skill set as long as it was within a 45 minute commute from my house. I'm now working at a medium sized company about 20 minutes away. Do I love what I'm doing? Not really...but it's a job and it gets me out of the house everyday.

Uhc is still a pos for what they did! Hope the lawsuits waiting burns the stock price! Lot of work need to be done and you’re laying off the knowledge to do it. Temps don’t know anything and most of the overseas teams are overpaid dead weight!

Ny'ers are tough, you got this! I checked out Emblem Health as another post suggested and they have tons of jobs. I'm not sure personally if I want to stick with Health Insurance any longer though. I don't see moving to another insurance company any differently, they are all slaves to the stock market. I was mad over being let go Thursday, but now I'm not. I was in a no-win situation due to lack of opportunities and hiring freezes to get off of the sinking ship/area I was in. I will miss my co workers throughout my time there, but I'm also angry and disgusted that management didn't take these concerns seriously when they were brought up monthly over the last year. I've made great connections and friends over the years and for that I'm thankful.
