Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

How much does Macys spend on the parade each year?

…..and I wonder how many jobs that equates to?

I worked in the parade group and was laid off 3 years ago. The budget for the parade that is supported by Macys is very very small actually. The parade is a money making entity of partnership marketing that supports itself and the Fireworks almost at 100%. Trust me were it a money drain.....it would have been sold off years ago....and yes, there are plenty of buyers lined up to take the Thanksgiving Day Parade off of Macy's hand for a tidy chunk of change. I have zero love lost for Macy's ....but know what you speak of.

@2odq+13pHYiP7 The last area that should be cut is marketing? You should take a deeper look into what was actually cut with the closure of SF

It’s a marketing expense and tbh, the last area that should get cuts when business is tough is marketing bc that’s a sign the core business is in teal trouble

All that "exposure" obviously does not equate to sales.

I was laid off so I'm not in the mood of defending Macy's.

However, you guys need to understand how marketing works.

These fireworks and parades are very effective ads, aired nationally for free by broadcasters. You will have to spend much much more to get that kind of exposure. As long as the ROI is there, it makes sense to keep them going.

You can't cut your way to growth.

That aside, I do agree that they're in a panic mode. They've cut everything else that they have no clues on growing, like digital, and putting all their eggs into the stores and those old and busted brands (Alfani, INC).

what one has to do with the other is the spectacle of happy fourth of july excess juxtaposed with ruthlessness and lost jobs

The parade reaches more eyes in Q 4 than could ever be bought in an ad buy.

I know this will get downvoted. . . but what does one have to do with the other? This is something a kid would say.
