Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Any non-US shire layoffs today!

Out of curiosity were any of the 5000 people (2% of the total work force) laid off today NOT US based employees?

I have a strong suspicion that this was a thinning of only the US based work force but looking to see if I am wrong. I am hoping that I am wrong.

My thoughts are with everyone who lost their job today. Couldn’t sleep at all last night and was just waiting for my work phone to ring all day today. I dodged this one (and 6 earlier ones) but might not the early March 2020 one.

@1nil...Can you confirm Tuesday, 03/20/20 is the next layoff date? My inside source gave me a different date for March.

Look at the percentages there are only around 2500 staff in ireland. Similarly a lot have been redeployed in to lesser roles. You also should recognize without the tax break Ireland provides the organization a lot more staff would have been laid off already.

I’m sorry but 8 Ireland employees compared to 30-40k US employees laid off since May 2019 is no comparison.

There was 8 layoffs in Ireland last week. None that I have heard from today. Ireland is rarely hiring anyone, only in specific IT specialist roles. Their work is moving to India and people are told to apply for another department or leave. Managers are not saying anything, but a large section is moving in Q2 to India. So possible layoffs coming there.

Not today that I'm aware of but yes there have absolutely been lay offs in Ireland in the very recent past. That's globalisation for you. The modern world dictates no job is for life, the trick is to move every couple of years. A lot of whinging on here from people who have done the same thing day in, day out for ten years plus expecting nothing to change....

I can confirm UHG is hiring massive amounts of employees in Ireland, India and the Philippines. The RIF’s are only for employees in the US.

Look at what the pay averages in your area... now look at minimum wage offshore... so many people being let go in california only for them to hire hundreds in ireland. Most of the managers and supervisors abandoned ship in my department. Its quite ominous but we were given no warnings. People in my department and trying their best to find other jobs within the company, but it seems like we are all being red flagged. Its horrible.

Sorry about the misspelled words in the thread title. Apparently we all are hobbits working in a shire. Actually, that might not be too far from the truth.

I can’t confirm the 3/4/2020 lay offs but I heard the same rumor. Seems kind of close to this one unless they are going to focus more on Optum with the March 2020 one. I would think maybe closer to the end of March after the Q1 results were fully analyzed and plans made? Again, pure speculation on my part.

They say it’s global but I suspect it’s US based only. They are ramping up hiring offshore. You mention March 2020 layoff. I am hearing Wednesday, 03/04/19 is the next wave of layoffs. Can you confirm this is the date?
