Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Considering What's Going on With Retail....

What I find hard to believe is how many of you were surprised or caught off guard by this.
Seriously? Are you living under a rock? Are you an ostrich posing as a human?
Maybe spend less time in front of the id–t box and more time paying attention to what's going on in the world.
Just a thought...and this isn't over, not by a long shot.

Nobody awake is surprised, what is surprising is that our exec leadership has done so little in response to a sector that has been essentially changing in the same direction for over a decade. This is not a shock, stores are struggling, what has our leadership done? They've declared store a competitive differentiator! What have we done to to offer a different store format? What have we done to monetize our real-estate? What have we done to decouple our logistics and distribution and offer it as a service to other retailers or direct-to-consumer businesses? One could name a myriad of possibilities. Honestly, what innovation have we seen?

Macy's has done little more than cut expenses when sales drop. I get it, we are free to work elsewhere, no problem. Just painful to watch.

The thing is that the vast majority of retail is still bricks and mortar. Plenty of stores have figured out how to make a go of it. They have a strategy and focus on making the shopping experience pleasant, not frustrating.

The last Macy's I visited, in an upscale mall, looked like a bargain basement. Shopping was impossible, there was so much mdse crammed on racks and tables. It was the opposite of what Macy's should be. Compare that experience to the Nordstrom's or Neiman's in the same mall. Polar opposites

I’ll have to agree. It’s not gonna get any better going forward.

Always some slob trying to make themselves feel better about all the shortcomings in their own life. Sad
