Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

COBI meeting 02/06

Received an invite for a meeting 02/06. There have long been rumors of E&I getting hit. Surely they can’t lay everyone off? Does anyone know anything regarding this? Very scary.

COBI - claim operations and benefit installation. E&I is Employer and Individual, commercial product

I was laid off back in October and it happened on a Wednesday. I got a 15 min meeting notice with my VP put on my calendar when I got into the office. Telecommuters had their meeting over the phone.

Like another poster said, if you're laid off from UHC, you'll get 2 weeks of pay and will be paid for 40 hours of PTO. Anything over 40 hours is lost and they won't pay it out to you. You'll get a lump sum severance payment based on your years of service and pay grade. However, the severance payment isn't given to you until 2-3 pay periods (4-6 weeks) AFTER your last paycheck which really s—s.

A couple weeks after the layoff, you'll also get a check for any money that was taken out of your paycheck for the employee stock purchase program.

If you're affected by a layoff, apply for your state's unemployment benefits as soon as you can. It's not much but it does help. Also be prepared for the cost of continuing your benefits through Cobra. It's astronomical!

What’s is COBI. And E&I

E&I is losing a lot of business (especially renewal business) to competitors and they aren't winning new business. That can't be good for the bottom line.

Because I still have coworkers/friends that still work at UHG. I keep in touch with some of my old coworkers.

@ptl+13giomP4 - How can you confirm layoffs if you are no longer with the company?

I was laid off in October after 15 years of service. Layoffs (RIF) are coming on 02-06-20. I have confirmed this from many employees still there. Right before RRP. If you are laid off you’ll get paid two additional weeks, 40 hours of PTO; plus a lump sum severance based on your years of service and grade level. Apply for unemployment immediately if you’re laid off. Good luck to all of you!

In my office they laid off our entire dept. in October. They called into a last minute meeting and told us we were being laid off. There were 10 of us.

I don’t believe everyone will get laid off but it seems like there will be some kind of reduction.

The entire E&I department got the 2/6/20 email. I highly doubt they would layoff the entire department. I believe it's all rumors.

Luckily after 18 years at uhc, I would welcome a layoff
