Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Any T2R Rumors out there ?

I suspect there are layoffs coming for services and hardware. Power Hardware has bit hit every year in the spring for the last three years and the power 2019 numbers were really bad and 2020 is going to be a major challenge.

Another way to cut costs is to push T2Rs(transition to retirement). That cuts the pay of the older workers and gives them time to transition out and to train those around them. Its a win-win, should be around all the time imho vs people getting cut or people quitting with little notice.

Any rumors on a T2R in 2020 ?

Previous T2Rs were announced in May... I would be interested as would others.

@9ogl+13fuQfIE - Do you mean you got cut this week? If so, IBM is keeping this pretty quiet.

Soft (quiet) lay-off is in effect now. Colleague and I just got cut, no notice, over 50. Same old same old IBM

How much more can IBM lay off? Unless it is getting rid of an entire division. I am in US Lab Services (the so called cloud stuff) and we are already on a skeleton crew not able to keep up with demand. Not to mention, that these days we get deployed on 6-12 months engagements so instead the providing services to 10-15 customers a year it now 1 or 2.

This IBM company is totally broken. And it will get worse now that Arvind Khrisna (mo–n) is taking over. This guy has showed nothing during his tenure as SVP of the Cloud division

Storage software is hiring, and the jobs are deeply technical so a good fit for experienced systems programmers. x86, Power, and z all needed.

The charismatic leader of power moved to amd and many other critical people followed and others are trying to get over there if amd will hire them, future looks really lost and bad for power hw, also many tech leads are at retirement age with no backups

Storage in USA has been looking to hire - likely younger candidates. Surprising given the long term poor performance of storage and HW in general. Perhaps there would be an up turn if they hired experienced (older) people, but then I doubt they could pay them a competitive package. The company desperately needs an influx of fresh minds that understands the world outside IBM.
