Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Operations Town Hall

The town hall was an hour of propaganda. Those 3 myths weren't myths at all. I didn't believe one thing that was said during the "fireside chat" except that they are discouraging telecommuting.
For telecommuters, executive management wants to control how much face to face interaction you need with co workers and what your career aspirations need to be.
Now that they are discouraging telecommuting, there is no incentive to stay with this dysfunctional employer.

GAP—I was told a while ago that they recover the laptop due to cost and the information they need to recover. The rest of the equipment isn't really worth it. They dont reuse the monitors, they throw them away. Sometimes they dont ask for them back.

I was one of the many that was laid off as of 01/02/2020 if they are trying to save money and expenses you would think they would want their equipment back.. We received a box for the laptop, docking station and phone. I still have the rest of the WAH Kit i.e Monitors, modem (which belongs to Spectrum), tech bag, cables and router. If this company is serious about saving money and jobs they need to get with the program. All this equipment I still have adds up (cost wise). Called HR and and they gave me an EMAIL address not a phone number that handles recovery then according to prewritten email response I got back they only handle laptops not any other equipment......... UNITED HEALTH CARE if you are reading these post please get your act together. Yeah we had to sign a nondisclosure/non-compete no lawsuits filed to receive our severance. But your "Come to Jesus moment" is coming soon and you are so ill prepared. If you had really wanted honest surveys completed don't link it to our email account...... seriously. Send them in the mail have a stack that are given out where we can mail back in to keep you honest. Or better yet ask your employees who are making 16-20 an hour how much of their day is an overlap of other programs. Or how many pages of Job Aids you have for an employee that is working hourly. Do the MATH it's a freaking novel the job aids you have created for these positions that does not add up to the amount paid hourly vs the amount of job aids. I doubt upper management has anything close to sheer volume of a job description/job aids that change w/o notice and at least a couple times a month. Not to mention having our calls monitored by people who first language is not ENGLISH. I am all for everyone having a piece of the pie but use some common sense not to mention it would ALWAYS cause a lot of bonuses to never be paid based on those reviews. So far it looks like the 2 prior groups that were let go in Oct and Jan have not made the national news........... yet. You need a 3rd party company to streamline what you are trying to do because what you have being doing is NOT WORKING! Please UHC buy a vowel and get a CLUE. Good luck to your Feb folk!

Everyone is over the farce that Town Halls have become.

Was anyone in Oldsmar? Would love to hear a first hand account of this meeting. The last 20 minutes looked /felt uncomfortable and that was watching the stream. Can't imagine what the room felt like.

Lay-off fatigue is definitely having an impact. Was already working 50 hour weeks and now people are being shuffled in and out of projects who know nothing and there’s nobody to get them up to speed because the knowledgeable people were let go and the rest of us are swamped. No clue how we’re going to meet some of these customer commitments but hey the shareholders are happy so.....yay?

I agree, I've seen it all over that people are suffering from layoff fatigue and not bothering trying to grow or excel. Almost like they dont care since UHC doesnt care about them. I hate seeing employees there 15 to 20 years feeling like that. Its depressing. Then they lie on the surveys saying everything is good in fear of of being next one laid off....

"How better to make the worker bees work harder than to believe that their jobs are in peril every minute of the day? It's a genius and sinister move on their part."
I think this was a grave miscalculation, at least in my area. I've witnessed layoff fatigue. Most people in my area have realized they are just a number. They no longer try to stand out or exceed, since efforts aren't reflected in scorecards. They are doing the minimum and are focusing on applying and interviewing elsewhere.

The QVC thing probably rubbed me the wrong way the most. I know atleast 75% of us work hard and deserve the payout, yet it’s is in fact not something easily met. I know when I was year 2 top advocate I still didn’t meet it.
And here we are again getting ready to get our yearly reviews and nothing will even go towards our actual performance or job description. We are going to score compliance but it’s not going to go against you, but you can still be put on a Cap for it.

@xcy+13f4X1Op - that's because you are supposed to be thrilled that they realized after a decade that it takes more time for people to physically change their production in Omega instead of actually doing production. Something that probably should've been realized during R&D/testing circa 2010 and prior to rolling out. And these are the same people who want to be the next Amazon/AWS tech space, LOL!
Wait until the SOP macro they showed is written incorrectly or pulls the wrong/ outdated SOP and thousands of claims get paid incorrectly...

I especially liked the part about getting rid of Omega....LOL! They made it sound that they know we hate it (true) and they are going to bring in something "automated"... which means people were able to get around omega to bolster up their metrics, and management knew it. Dont think for a moment that this new system will be better... if anything just more difficult to get away with things. UHC isn't going to make anything better. That's not what they do. And the part about providers liking uhc? HA! Another lie!

I agree with you Jordan. While those myths were discussed, I felt that BB knew he wasn't fooling anyone. I felt like they plucked those myths right from this site.
First, to say that layoffs haven't affected goals and customer service/NPS is a lie because they have no data to support that. The NPS data they use is 3-6 months old. They have no data to show whether Q4 layoffs hurt or helped business. We've seen providers complaining on this site within the last 6 months about their experience.
I thought using the CRT department as a model for their new integration program was ironic since they laid off management in that department last year and it's currently a shambles (see earlier posts on here from CRT staff)
The QVC statements were a blatant lie. Direct management has communicated that there hasn't been metrics or funds for QVC (depending on your area) Why wasn't there numbers shared for the 2019 gross QVC payout company wide? A: Because it was limited or none in Operations.
Limiting telecommuting just solidified to me that current leadership is moving backward while trying to be forward thinking. They are gung ho on AI, machine learning, being in the top tier in the tech space yet the people they need to get them there expect a flexible employer who respects work life balance.
Ironically, the people that they are laying off (tenured employees) are the breed of employee that would tolerate being brought back into an office after telecommuting. Newer, younger employees have no issue switching jobs once they lose faith in their employer.
The lack of applause and muted response at the end of the myth portion spoke for itself.

Bruckman is actually not terrible but likely has little to say as McMahon and Wichman make the rules.
He laid it out there. Layoffs are real/happening and its because operating expenses are too high in mgmts estimation. They are basically cutting expenses to beat earnings per share expectations. Despite big profits it is not enough. That is all you need to know about working here.

QVC - he was half honest about it. Executives are happy they didn't pay out even if he said that's not a good thing. They want the money and do not care about the performance as long as the worker bees have the carrot in front of them and are actually trying to do well. Work with no reward.
Telecommuting is a big benefit that is gonna be cut to alot of groups but they are talking out both sides of their mouths because they are closing offices and moving people to telecommute at the same time. At least he recognized that c-ap.

I feel for the group that was in that meeting. Very little positive in terms of their employment and compensation. Why stay imo

How can he say he wants people to get QVC when it was unobtainable or frozen for half of last year? He thinks people are buying the BS ... people are getting told they aren't getting RRP and raises, and haven't seen QVC in months!!!
