Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Does Optum use video webcam type conferencing for regular meetings / 1 on 1s / in general?

Does Optum use laptop video webcams for it's employees for meetings, 1 on 1 meetings, etc? I am currently working from home for Walgreens as a developer.

I have a round of interviews coming up at Optum. I already use enough of my Internet bandwidth with my development and video takes a lot more bandwidth. Plus to be honest, I really don't want to be on camera randomly during instant chats / meetings, or regular meetings. Does anyone know on the corporate side their experience in this? I know it sounds weird, but it's more of a personal preference.

Some teams like to use video in Webex
The company pays for my internet, not sure if they are doing that for new hires
Be happy with the pay you start on because annual increases are 1-2% and bonuses are much lower than the recruiter promises

We use WebEx for everything but nobody ever uses the video.

Yes for Optum Medicare. Video for most meetings and now even member contact, for nurses anyway.

If you want to avoid layoffs every quarter and a guaranteed large layoff every December, look elsewhere for opportunities.

If you are a good developer you can do better than optum. They do not pay long term and they will abuse you if they see your capable and quiet. None of the healthcare insurers are a destination spot imo. The climate s—s for this industry. Don't join it willingly.

I cannot agree more with this statement: "Be warned of all the hype by the HR folks about the bonus."
Assume and expect ZERO

Be warned of all the hype by the HR folks about the bonus. They will tell you the company always makes money so there is a bonus, but that is not true. Very few below grade 30 get a bonus and the average merit raise year after year is 1 to 1.5% which does NOT keep up with the cost of living. And you get no break on health insurance either. And tech jobs are quickly being moved off shore and thousands of folks laid off most years, including on December 23 this year. So think twice about working for Optum as it's reputation is fading fast as it lines the pockets of its top brass and stockholders.

Depends on the team but webcam usage is becoming more common... at least in Optum technology.

Completely depends on the team/area you are in. Some do and some don't. In the several years I have been with the company I have never used my camera.
