Offered 8% retention bonus to stay during strategic alternatives. Half paid ASAP, other half paid after closing of sale. Nice but cheap.

I was offered 12%, already started looking elsewhere. I don't want to be part of the pile looking for a job after few months
Retention bonuses are simply paying people off who know they should go ahead and leave. Don't jump overboard until the ship hits the bottom of the ocean? (not smart to hang on)
