Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Hiring Freeze Until May 1

No internal or external hiring unless it’s critical until May 1. Includes internal and external hiring. Just came down late yesterday. No news about lay-offs, but people are getting concerned.

hiring is still happening for VP and friends. only plebs are on hold. Dell management are nasty old hags with severe short sightedness and loves clonning themselves.

Few thoughts...

  • Dell has a bank and its called Silver Lake that’s getting about 5% interest from Dell on all the loans
  • Dell is now trading below $30
  • The reason Dell stock is getting beat to hell is they don’t have a dividend and investors are fleeing to companies that pay a dividend

The Dell recruiter I was working with last Friday emailed me and said that everything was on hold for 2wks. When I heard that, I thought to myself "that's all???"

I'm currently unemployed (thanks IBM!) and I'm hearding from several companies that they are putting everything on hold. It's sad to see that there are companies also doing layoffs during this. (but in reality, if they dont have the money to pay you, then what would you expect)

Couldn't possibly be due to a reaction to COVID-19.

Looking at Open Market info. Dell stock went from $75 last year, to $32 last Friday. Technical analysis shows the start of a down trend. Certainly, it is not apealing.

I'll let you in on a secret. Dell is not considered investment grade material in the corporate bond world. More like junk bonds trading with JC Penney and the GAP, retailers whose existence past this year is in question.

With the credit crisis Dell may not be able to access the credit markets for a good long stretch. That means any debt they have that matures may need to take precedence as far as repayment. Certainly a hiring freeze makes sense in this context.
