LOL... the company is working on eliminating most American positions anyway. US employees walking out would be doing them a favor since they then wouldn't have to pay severance. Rather than walking out, need to unioinize.
you do not need 100%. unions do not work that way - first they will organize a small sample to see if it's worth their time to draw up the legal paperwork. if they get 60% of ppl in agreement to support a cause they will then initiate a public polling to the company, informing the CEO that interest has been shown and they will be speaking directly to a larger group of the field they would be representing. at that point they only need majority, i think around 75% of people to say yes of which all ppl they speak too are legally protected during this voting session by their lawyers. if anyone is fired during this time they will begin a thorough investigation into the practices that led to the layoffs that occurred. If they get it then the union is implemented officially.
(I'm not a union representative, i work at this horrid place like you)
I won’t post names as it gets your IP blacklisted but I’ll say ALL OF IRELAND!

And those who are making fat salaries for doing very little wouldn't participate. They have it good and they know it. Oh, how I would love to start typing names! But I assume that's forbidden here.
Unions filter and organize the masses. Most people in 1 department cannot agree on 1 thing. Imagine the thousands of people across multiple countries. Unions force solidarity using logic to determine the most beneficial ideas. And right now, we just need the basics: better healthcare (we're a healthcare company dammit!), job security, and more power over leadership/upper management
Right. Unions organize the labor force and give employees bargaining power.
A union would hurt them a lot more.
If that happened, it'd be great but you need 100% support. This company is so blind that it believes temps can replace anyone. If your department does it, you still need 100% to join and know that you are 100% crippling the company. If one person doesn't, the company will dump all the work on that one person or use them to train new hires.
Also, as the other poster mentioned, people living paycheck to paycheck, nearing retirement, or in line for promotion/bonuses would not support. The logistics of this is a nightmare.
Those that are paycheck to paycheck have to stay. Stuck.
