Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

How did we get here?

6 months ago, our competition across the street laid off many employees... Our director was quick to respond to us and remind us how that is not Hy-Vee’s way. If your store closes, they find you a home, layoffs and cutting pay was not an option Hy-Vee would ever explore. Why? Because the people, the employees, have ALWAYS been Hy-Vee’s greatest asset. The message I have received in the las few years especially, is that we really have no voice anymore. It is gone. Randy has stepped into a tunnel and not even Rick Jurgens could pull him out. The gap between us and Walmart has shrunk, except we have no way in competing price wise...

Wasted 8 years and got knocked down from 45 hours to 40 hours. They have laid off people at our store and have also kept cutting more hours out of each department. Word on the street is that they are going after the pharmacy next. I don’t see this company lasting much longer. You can’t burn the ships if they are sinking!

I spent 9 years, pouring my heart and soul into my dept, to make it grow, be successful, and make it money, but apparently passion for your work isn't enough for them. I also thought I would be there till retirement.

I wasted 35 years! Thought I would be there until retirement but this past Tuesday, they made sure that didn’t happen.
