Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

How does it work for laid off telecommuters

Would love some insight from those who have been through this. How long til home internet turned off? How do we return equipment? Do they want it all even like desk chair and filing cabinet or just computer and monitors? Thank you in advance.

Optum sent boxes for my laptop and docking station and I sent those back. Will they ever send boxes for the monitors, keyboard, headset and carrying case for the laptop? I've tried contacting my previous manager but got no response. Does anyone know a phone number or email address to contact to ask for boxes and shipping labels?

The internet service got cut at the end of the billing cycle on which the last day of pay fell (varies by individual and their service provider's billing cycle). The Provisioning area never communicated to me when the service would end or what to do with their leased cable modem. A month later the internet provider sent me a bill for having possession of their cable modem if I didn't return it to one of the provider's local stores or ship its return via UPS, with only two days' notice from arrival of the bill. I returned it to the local store and showed the store clerk the bill so they could pull up the info on the employer and account. The store printed for me a physical receipt as proof that I returned the leased modem.

I was let go back in November. I never received an email about returning the equipment and the lights indicate it still has a connection. Until I hear anything, I'm just leaving it alone.

Yeah box came for laptop, docking station and phone. The rest 2 monitors, router, keyboard, desk and chair I have heard nothing about this yet and I have CALLED several times. I understand keeping the desk and chair not cost effective to send back, but the monitors and keyboards router those items can be reused. However I was told I need to take the modem back to Spectrum no box was sent no instructions and the ONLY reason I know I need to take it back to Spectrum was because I called several times about this c-ap still in my house...And I was let go back in Jan 2020 to kick my new year off right.

I still have my Optum supplied internet at home.

That’s not true for everyone. I just got a dedicated intern line installed at the end of last year that Optum pays for.

@efl+13OQCMKQ No they didn’t. Maybe your department did.

also, other companies require you to pay your own internet if you are wfh employee. So they are just reducing cost like all other insurances

That makes sense. My internet bill went up right about October before being let go in March last year

They turned off all company paid internet services for telecommuters for Optum back in October.

When you load your stuff into the box it’s literally everything but your headset, monitors, chair, desk and filing cabinet.... I had this lingering weird UBH Optum feeling lurking in my home though...I checked and yes I found the shiney blue covered coffee mug we so desperately fought over and won as a team underneath Keith keytel era in Houston was on the floor back behind some things. It was a good era, good memories but no longer something to bring into the new season...Once you “Marie Kondo” your optum stuff, you feel very aware most if not all your items don’t “spark joy” so out they go!😂🙌

they'll send you empty boxes for all the stuff they issued to you. right before my last official day, ups dropped off 2 boxes at my house and i sent back all the c-ap they've sent to me over the years—laptop, broken docking station, printer..... then you call ups and they pick up the boxes. i don't know when they turned off internet service because i had my own line in addition to the uhc business line.

The week after my layoff date, I was sent 2 large boxes for my laptop, giant printer, keyboard, mouse, headset, etc. Most of the equipment I had was over 5 years old and I didn't want to keep any of it. I kept the monitor stand because I liked it and they didn't want it back.

I don't know when they turned off my internet service because I had to personally return the modem to a Comcast service center or I was going to be held responsible for the cost of the equipment. UHC is too effing cheap to send someone out to collect the equipment. I did this 3 weeks post layoff.

I had to return everything (they sent several boxes within a week or two) and have UPS pick up and ship back. I am not sure about turning off internet as I also had my own along with it so not sure.

They are slow with switching internet off. I moved last year, and the company had a line setup at the new house the first day I moved in. Took them about 6 weeks to switch it off at the house I didn't own anymore.

When you separate, you will return the laptop, everything else (Monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer) are yours to keep.
