Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Heard severance packages are shrinking.. anyone know?

Anyone know what the current severance packages are @ the hourly wage level? I’ve heard they are getting smaller.
Like most others I speak to, I am looking for another job and hoping for severance.
I’m trying to decide if I should just take the next best thing or wait for the job I really want...
if that severance is getting smaller it’s not worth waiting on that as a backup in case I don’t find the right job before being ousted.

Windstream is a joke where the laughter turned into tears of frustration. Worst leadership I’ve ever had.

"Something to think about:"
"You may have a hard time job-hunting in a few days or weeks when coronavirus moves in:"

I see this post of mine got downvoted by many people. I also see now how it could be read to be snarkier than I meant it.

I worry about my neighbors. I think if you're thinking of leaving, you need to consider that the job market may get bad very soon. A new job now may be worth more than 12 weeks severance.

"Batshit crazy" - not meant as a snark at you all – these are seriously weird times

"Please don't sabotage my Kinetic" - some of you all entertain these fantasies on this board. On the ILEC side, me and millions are going to depend on Windstream even more than normal if we have to work from home. I'm hoping that, if folks feel they have to leave now, that the network will mostly run itself until things get back to normal. I'm hoping I'm not in a place where it won't.

And "good luck" – I really mean it

It is still 12 weeks. It was 26 weeks but a certain executive reduced most employees at the same time they boosted their own severance pay a few years back. A pattern repeated many times over. Just another nail in the employee morale coffin.

So to consolidate the posts, it seems as though the max amount has been dropped from 12 weeks to 10 weeks. Is this correct?

Something to think about:

You may have a hard time job-hunting in a few days or weeks when coronavirus moves in:

  1. It’s a big distraction
  1. It’s hard to get hired without face-to-face meetings
  1. The economy will look and feel a lot less positive. Optimism drives hiring.
  1. This could go on for awhile, even after the virus moves through. Longer than 12 weeks.
  1. Most of all, who knows what weird stuff will be going in down. It’s already a weird season politically; now Mother Nature’s getting into the mix, too.

If this disease really did originate with bats in China, well it just puts new meaning to the words “batshit crazy”

Good luck out there - don’t forget to stock up on beer, ammo and toilet paper before they run out. And please don’t sabotage anything on your way home. I’m counting on working from home with my Kinetic.

Windstream targeted their layoffs by salary. It just so happened alot of those employees were older veterans. Windstream put alot of veterans on the unemployment line and then claims to help vets in a press release the following week. Its a disgraceful company

Any company has the right to lay off. Unless you can prove that they targeted certain minorities, or age groups, there is nothing you can do. I am sure that WS has all the ducks in a row when it comes to letting people go. Just because you been here for 20yrs doesn't exempt you from getting the axe :)
I also call bs, TT doesn't negotiate with us peasants.

Yep, I agree with the last post, it is BS. During the past 18 months I have heard all kind of stories of people who were RIF'd that filed class action lawsuits and got 6 digit settlements, people who negotiated great severance packages, etc. My fav is the one of the guy in GA who after being let go returned to his cube and just continued working, refusing to leave, the rumor goes that WS didn't want to cause a scene calling the police, they just withdrew the lay off and let him stay :)

I call BS on this. WS doesn't negotiate severance packages. You get what they offer and hit the door :)
Unless there is more to this story I say BS, fake news, whatever you call it.
But to the question about severance, up to 12 weeks, depends on how long you been here. Under 1 yr and you get nothing.
Good luck to all

Ok, here is what I was told.
A lady in my dept was let go about 13 months ago. I ran into her at the grocery store just before Christmas. I asked her how things were going since the RIF. She told me that the day they let her go she was called into the HR office, her manager who was is located in another state was on the phone. She got the standard script about consolidating, blah blah. She said she told them they would be hearing from her lawyer and walked out the door. She claims the next day a big wig from HR in LR called her at home and darn near begged her to not call a lawyer, that this could be worked out between them. She said when it was all worked out she received 26 weeks of severance, WS covered her under health insurance during that 26 weeks, and paid her for all unused vaca time. Now understand, I don't know if all this is true. But IF it is true it might be something to consider when your number get drawn.

Seriously, if you have a decent job lined up don’t wait for a lousy severance check. When this house cards goes into the March winds, it will blow away faster than you can say TT!!

I was non-union - was there for 22 years. I got the boot in 2018. They gave me 12 weeks.

seriously if you think as an hourly non-bargaining employee you're getting 12 weeks of pay as severance regardless of how long you've been here, you're just the latest person to buy into the lies

1 week for every year capped at 10, there's no minimum payout of 6 or 10 or 12 or anything like that. Has neither gone up nor down with any of the recent changes

The last I saw was 6 weeks off the bat and 1 week for every year capped at 10. It’s apparent there has been no communication about it ( no surprise from spineless hr). Recent rumors are 6 weeks right after a demotion to make sure the payment is smaller.

12 weeks the last I heard for non bargaining, non manager. If they cut it to 6, I'll just take off now. We will probably find out at the end of next week.

Non union and the last official communication I saw was 10 weeks (12 for manager level). But that was 1 year ago now.

I heard it was down to 6 for us unprotected scruffs...

If you are hourly and not Union I believe severance is now 12 weeks of pay. Most Union severance packages are much higher(depending on years of service) and would be according to your Union contract.
