Any rumblings going on around the world about RA’s the day? I thought maybe there would be some news or maybe it’s the quiet before the storm

The corona virus has very little to do with IBM’s plans. They sent out their PIP’s in Feb and are awaiting the 30 day improve or leave clause. (almost everyone impacted was in Sales/commission job roles as it’s very easy to measure attainment). Once April gets here, IBM will align services to unpack overlapping roles. (expect a rather large employee impact (consult/perform) with this action as there are multiple areas where Redhat/GBS/GTS intersect). Once finished, the skeleton crews of businesses that IBM doesn’t view as strategic will be disposed of. This plan was first Proposed by the consultants that IBM hired in 2017-2018, and was set in motion by Krishna when he recommended buying Redhat. It’s now just a matter of execution
I think the delay had to do with the corona stock market drop. Somebody wants to be able to take advantage of the bump the IBM stock price will get when they start dumping people and groups. Kinda hard to do that now with the market tank. Probably hoping next week brings it back a bit before the dumping and bumping begins.
- 1baz I think the opposite, IBM would love to do a huge layoff whilst the press is occupied elsewhere. This would be the time,.
I'll wager that the new RA date is 3/5. I have lived through a few of these and IBM HR is so slow at getting their act together, it's no surprise they didn't hit their internal date of 2/27. Anyone who has had a close friend cut in these messes has heard the stories of how disorganized and hap-hazard these poorly planned dismissals go. They likely had shot for last week and couldn't process that many notices in time.
Stay tuned.
@1fbs: Because, of course, their fears are unjustified? Particularly if they are on the "wrong" side of 50?
@1baz: You are reading too much into it.
It's not stopping Cisco, so why would it stop IBM? Besides, they'd just deny it anyway. Lying works nowadays - just look at the POTUS.

There is always next week... for those who are always afraid to get laid off!
I may be reading too much into this, but –
My guess is that IBM was going to hand out pink slips this week, but this Corona pandemic scare has given them enough reason to hold back a few weeks, to see if it blows over quickly. Now, you might say, IBM is too callous to let an opportunity like this wait, and you would probably be right.
But, knowing how our news cycle works and how things get blasted around, don't you think even IBM would not want to be accused of firing a huge swath of folks when the country may be in a big health scare? I'd bet they weighed this and decided to give it a few more weeks so they don't look like they are pouring more gas on the fire.

I recall last year, the RA's were done on Thursdays. I don't know if this is necessarily the way IBM always does it. Does anyone recall them issuing notices on days other than Thursdays?
Managers submitted their spreadsheets with employee names for RA last week.
This is real and will happen soon - No idea on when but assume soon - GLTA
Delayed!!
The longer the delay, the bigger the size
HR got the (corona) virus... so they are indisposed at the moment... RA delayed!
@xie - loving that new Red kool aid I see. Enjoy it as it's "culture" is going to take over and flaunt it. (I'm not a fan of that fwiw. there's a lot of marketing fluff and morale boosting going on because of the recent IBM "red" acqusition. In reality its own top people have fled to vmw
For God's sake - that last posting was from 2009
Yes but if you change the date to the near future, it might be exactly the same. IBM has not changed tunes in 10 years.
For God's sake - that last posting was from 2009 !! You can see it on Computerworld here -

Maybe this was a hoax started by one of our competitors since they know we are a formidable force in the cloud now?
Regardless of what happens (or doesn't), they are on the record with this statement on the Q4 earnings call:
"In GTS, we are going to take aggressive structural actions to reposition the business overall. I would tell you, if you look at the last few years, that will probably be on the high end of that"
Priorities of the team I am in got shifted involving cloud migration but haven't heard anything yet
It was all fake news. There is no layoff.
I suspect something is brewing as IBM notified the Union officials in Europe
