Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Severance for those moves from UHC to Optum Jan 2020

I read an older post stating UHC employees moved to Optum in Jan are not eligible for severance package. With the next RIF round approaching just curious if this holds any truth. The writing is on the wall for my department so just really curious as to what I can (or can not) expect.

Notice the US company language of "eligible" –it's at there whim. It's not law to give severance. Just bc it's in there employee handbook doesn't mean anything. It's subject to change anytime anywhere at there whim.

@vyt Optum 360 employees that were layed off in our group all received severance pkgs. Severance was also contingent on the employee training their replacement. They were also long time employees with 20+ years of service.

I looked it up on the HUB too and it looks like Optum would be excluded from severance, but I also know some Optum employees let go in December that got a severance. Maybe certain divisions are excluded.

A company document is not law. It's a company document that can be changed anytime-at there will. We have little to any worker rights

If you pull up the UHG document, there is a list of the organizations covered by the policy. Optum Services Inc. is one of them.

No severance, they called it "transfer". And "part of the family team, and winning for the company." Polish the cv

If you are offered a new position within UHG with at least 95% of your original pay, then you are not eligible for severance. In that case you are not being laid off, you are being transferred.

Where are you seeing that on the Hub? The severance policy applies to all of UHG, with Optum360 having a separate policy.

According to The Hub, Optum employees are not eligible for a severance package. On pins and needles here, my area is not safe for sure.
