Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Why Try ...question for management

Simple question.....why should I expell any efforts? The bonus and promotion is rigged. Pay NOT keeping even with inflation. Simple question....why should I care or try to do my job. I don't expect an answer due to leaderships endless tries to avoid answering these questions....but figured I will keep trying...for HONESTY

Because management jobs are so flipping easy that a barnyard animal can do them. That is why those staff managers do not leave. They are cushion jobs. The supervisors do all the work, and when the staff managers are assigned work they dump even more work onto the supervisor who will then dump onto the more reliable workers or team leads.
My staff manager will sit there and watch videos on YouTube or watch shows on Netflix or prime all day . Also, let’s talk about conference calls. Conference calls are not calls. They are calls about what they are going to discuss on the next call.
You will see. Staff managers don’t leave because they will have to do more work in other positions for other companies. They have it made at windstream.

Yeah. We started seeing DLRs from Time Warner and other telecoms and they were from an engineer still working at Windstream lol. We have alot of people working a fulltime job elsewhere but still collecting a free check from Windstream as management stays home and has no clue what their employees are doing. I did that for 5 months to make sure I liked my new job and was hoping to get a severance from windstream. Ended up just resigning as I didnt want my new employer finding out as they pay quite a bit more.

Windstream has been really smart about layering in management levels for “control “. They can’t get rid of any level or the next level up would have to take the reins. They don’t want that! And yes, I’ve not met one manager that could think for himself/herself outside of what they’re actually told to think. Most are fooled by the seemingly “nice” little dictators at the top of these telecom companies, but these guys are almost all crooked. This is what they aspire to because that is where the real money is and apparently the government looks the other way!! No real consequences.

So were wages impacted with the restructure... asking for a friend

As long as there are more people than jobs, wages will be depressed making more for the top tier while workers compete against one another and see each other as the enemy. That is the status quo. This is how people working for less than they are are worth are the new legal slaves for the people running the company. They need cheap workers to keep their profits high as they stuff their bank accounts full of money. The only way out is up, any way that you can. If you have to kiss a superiors butt, kiss it until you claw your way out of that hell. Then reach down and give a hand to help others up.

I was a director there. I could easily fit a months worth of work into a little under 4 days there. Oh and I worked from home. I bailed and have a real job now. Pays even better. I should have kept it and set up a second phone line and got double paid. Oh well. Anyone at WS in a similar position? No one cares if you show up? Get a second job and get double paid my friends. Thats what TT would do.

You know what's really funny. I use to be on a lot of calls where there were Managers and Directors present. There were discussion about engineering a better network. Most of the advice given are from my peers of Engineers. The next thing you know. Those ideas were taken to other department heads and made if seem like it was the ideas of Managers and Directors. Then the last thing you notice is they get promoted for having great ideas without so much thought in understanding how the network work. THAT'S MY FRIEND, IS HOW YOU GET PROMOTED TO DIRECTOR LEVEL!!! I am sure Mister Tibbs can relate to that. Man, I really want to know who this FOOL is.

The supposed Director answered the question...there is no reason to try when working for Windstream. If you want to provide for your families look elsewhere. And of course not bowing down to others superiority means you are either an old Boomer or stupid young Millenials ...nice.
Signed...Not trying anymore until I am laid off or quit. There you go...we are now in sync.

We need to get rid of D-level executive that coat-tail on the hard work of many of the employees that engineer the network and employees that work face-to-face with the customers every single day. I feel D-level executive like Director are just a waste of resources.

To the poster claiming to be a a Director.....bite me. We are complaining due to more workload rewarded with pay that has not kept pace with inflation for years. Management seems fine taking the money for themselves, but never step up and say 'take care of my individual contributors first since they have been neglected too long'! That would require INTEGRITY! All management promotions have been based on nepotism for many years now and the massaging of metrics for bonuses is well known by all.

"It’s always been this way, you work for the “man”. If you want a piece, step up and take charge, get promoted." Tibbs, you are a director? You have not learned much have you? You see, if you speak up because you don't like what the company is doing or that your manager or director doesn't have a mind of their own on how to run the department. Then you are never going to get promoted no matter how hard you work. But if you kiss a– and you do whatever they tell you to do even though you don't even agree then you get promoted. Look at some of the comment of stream. No want want to say how they truly feel, so afraid that they get backlash from their manager or director. So in order to get promoted, you need to kiss a– and don't speak your mind. I am an Engineer here. So, if you want to speak face to face, let me know. I am on Team. I am alway curious what department you actually run.

@3nut+13DoQlGr, If you are a director and you are on this site. You probably did some KISS ASSING to get up there. I don't think you work as hard as many of us.

I’m a director. And yes, occasionally I work from home. Most of you people whining about bonuses are probably crusty, lazy, long overstayed boomers or little millennials, who haven’t paid their dues. Most, not all, But most of those that make it to higher levels of management did not get there by mistake, they worked hard, shut up and did their job, not crying like little babies because a ceo or coo gets a bonus. Wake up, go do your job for the paycheck you receive or go get a better job. It’s always been this way, you work for the “man”. If you want a piece, step up and take charge, get promoted. If you want to be the Proverbial “man” or “ woman” , then aspire to that!! Go windstream, go serve your customers. Lead, follow or get out of the way! Let’s get behind our leaders, not cut them down. All you clowns. They call me mister Tibbs

My manager and director do not leave their house and do very little to no work. The example has been set. I recently started working from home along with several others in our department. We will see how long until management realizes their team works from home as they refused our requests to work remote while doing so themselves.

After working in a Union shop now is the time for Windstream employees to work to the rule, Do not go above and beyond. Don't break your back for a company that doesn't value you. What you need to be doing is working on your resumes and finding another job.

Godzilla’s Nemesis today reaffirmed why one doesn’t need to work so hard. With leaders like this you don’t have a clue if your being directed properly. People should hold out on working hard till dust settles. Hopefully the mo–n train will come get their people soon.

Do it because of personal pride ?? So instead of spending millions in bonuses and incentives to get the highest paid employees (management) to do their jobs a simple 'do it for pride' would have worked just as well or better? I have recruiters contacting me daily, time go to a competitor and reestablish my pride by working for a company that values the employees other than management.

Personal pride, that’s why you “try”. You don’t deserve a job with a post like this.

The question is how long can a company last when everyone that works with customers has given up. Ie sales, service delivery and repair.

You haven’t been looking in the right places then. There’s a few people still trying even though we all know it’s pointless and largely unappreciated.
