Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Band 10 employees, Some D band Partners will be the first to go in 2020.

They are pushing lower levels to move into billable slots. Also the new collar people will be taking the place of off shore workers since they can pay them $5 more than local retail jobs in the US and be more cost effective than offshore billing rates. AKA they are losing contracts left and right.

Federal is a disaster, GBS is nothing but overpriced finger pointers and getting pushed out by Wipro, Tata, AWS, Microsoft and the like.

If you are over 45, at 75% or more of band level and don't have your manager brown nosed, get ready.

So true, so true...

The real fun starts when the Red Hat clock is done ticking. Then it's time to merge into the big mess of redundancies that awaits.

Actually - This big layoff will mostly hit Bands 8, 9 and 10.
Regarding Band D - I already know of 2 Band Ds who were "saved' earlier this month from the chopping block by upper management.
It doesn't where in the range you are - people in the lower 25% are getting hit.

No reason to stop the cuts at D either, particularly in GBS.

I really hope this is true. Due to low pay and management forcing fast promotions as opposed to regular performance-based pay raises, combined with no vetting of external hires, the Band 10-D ranks are low quality across the board.

Any IBMer with any tenure should never be surprised with the constant layoffs, and if they’re surprised by being included, sadly they’ve had their heads in the sand.

I’ve seen so many valuable people get RA’d and they said they didn’t see it coming? WTH?

What a surprise... IBM is doing everything it can to save some money to make the next quarter earnings... there is absolutely no focus on growth!!

The hole is getting deeper and deeper... Good luck IBM!!
